id Responds to Rage PS3 Concerns
by Chris Faylor, Jul 31, 2009 4:37pm PDTFollowing up on word that, at this stage in development, the Xbox 360 version of Rage runs faster than the PlayStation 3 build, new details have surfaced, indicating PS3 owners should have nothing to worry about when the game is eventually released.
"We are committed to ensuring that gamers on all platforms have a great RAGE experience," developer id said of the "ruckus" in a Twitter update.
Additionally, id tech guru John Carmack, whose admission of lackluster performance sparked the whole debacle, told Edge that "we expect [Rage] to be 60 hertz on every supported platform" and "the work remaining is getting it locked so there's never a dropped frame or a tear, but we're confident that we're going to get that."
No word yet on when Rage will hit PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac, but 2010 looks likely.

This, of course, is marketing speak for "nobody wants to licence our engine". If the engine runs like crap on the PS3 it’s not going to be very desirable to developers, especially when the Unreal engine is already out there and running well. Seems it's the final nail in the coffin of Id's engine licensing business.
It might be the final nail in the games business as well since I can’t see many PC gamers wanting it after reading it was designed for consoles and I can't see many PS3 gamers wanting it after reading it runs at 20-30fps (something they're now trying to go back on to save sales). They’ve already pissed off two thirds of their potential market, which doesn't seem like a great start.

The problem with id is that they NEVER had a clue how to make a good game - they were lucky with Quake 2 and Quake 3, this tech demo for its engine licencees was still OK at the time so they got away with a lot of money.
But, as it's always true, time flies and they have created idTech 4, this crippled-unbalanced engine and then to make things even worse, they released Doom 3, this utterly embarrassing, very lame, pathetic game.
Ever since there's NO LICENSING DEAL for id (sans games they've tasked to someone else) - they ran out of money and they had to sell id to Bethesda.
Now Bethesda is whipping their asses because they want to see their investments returning something but these "performance problems" sound far too familiar for anyone who'd followed id for the past decade...

I honestly don't understand how, after so long, people get so emotionally invested in one platform over another. The only logical conclusion is that they cannot afford one over another, purchased one or the other, and are faced with justifying that decision by maligning the option they didn't pick.
I, for one, cannot afford a PS3 and got a 360 years ago. But to pretend that I would not want one, or to assume one is better than another, is sort of silly.

WTF? What about the game itself? Total non-issue if this game turns out to be average/mediocre like Doom3.

There ya go though, the PS3 version will be brought up to speed, obviously being as its a PC game porting it to 360 is easy and more direct to do. There is no doubt the PS3 version will be running with the 360 by the time this game comes out and only have 1 disk, not 3.
The PC one will still be the best version anyway if you got a good PC.
