Xbox Live Avatars Playable in Guitar Hero 5

Xbox 360 rockers will be able to import their Xbox Live avatar as a playable character into Neversoft's rhythm game Guitar Hero 5, publisher Activision has announced today.

Your zombie pirate avatar goes here.

The 'Create A Rocker' mode will allow stiff and stuffy avatars to clad themselves in the outrageous garb and trappings fundamental to a life of rock. Guitar Hero's traditional characters will still be available, as well as virtual rock stars including Shirley Manson.

Guitar Hero 5 is slated for a September 1 release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PS2 and Wii, packing 85 tracks and drop-in, drop-out play with any combination of instruments.

Isn't Band Hero going to be their casual oriented title, wouldn't it make more sense to put avatars in that (or are they going to do that also?). Does Activision have any idea what they are doing anymore?

I hope it'll remember who you like to play as in #5. The previous ones seem to forget which character I like to play as. Also, I feel more like a band in Rock Band 1 (and 2). And I feel more like my character is mine in Rock Band as well. Maybe because there's more emphasis on character creation in Rock Band.

More importantly, can we export the new looks back out and have our characters wear spandex holding guitars on Xbox Live?

I think it's a cool development, because they're showing some permeability of features across game barriers, but I also don't think I'll get rid of my Alice Cooper/Zakk Wylde hybrid monstrosity just yet.
