  • Well, see, I believe that the engine is only a means to an end. The first priority of an engine should be speed (this is where the Unreal engine really fails and the Quake engines really succeed.) Secondly, the ability to render detailed levels at those high speeds is important. Finally comes other eye-candy features. But when it comes down to it, I can survive with only #1. I'm not impressed by engines, I'm impressed by games. You should note that by saying that I think that "not being able to wait for a game that uses the Lithtech2 engine" is sad, it doesn't work the other way. I don't think that any game using this engine is automatically crap. The game that the engine renders is the important part, and, like I said, the engine's only a means to an end.

Of course, I didn't stop to think about whether Parker was a game editor or not...if he was interested in modifying a game that uses this engine, then his statement looks a whole lot different.

  • WHOOP! I'm excited!

    Full-On Innovates with LithTech™
Diablo 2 Designer Picks LithTech as Foundation for Flagship Title

Kirkland, WA (April 17, 2000) LithTech, Inc. today announced it will license the powerful LithTech 3D Game Operating System to Full-On Amusement Company, for an upcoming game which will be created by Stieg Hedlund, former game designer for Blizzard Entertainment.
“The Diablo series shook the industry. Now the designer of Diablo 2 has chosen LithTech as its foundation to again completely revolutionize interactive entertainment,” comments Jason Hall, CEO of LithTech, Inc. “LithTech’s advanced features, flexibility and support will supplement Full-On’s expertise in content and will assuredly create a compelling experience. We are very excited to be working with them.”
“Our engineers evaluated everything on the market and chose LithTech because it is far and away superior to any engine out there. LithTech is more than our technology supplier; we consider them to be our technology partner,” said Hedlund, lead designer and founder for Full-On Amusement Company. “We are jazzed about the flexibility and market potential of making a game for multiple platforms nearly simultaneously.”
The LithTech 3D Game Operating System, the technology behind Shogo: M.A.D. and upcoming Monolith games Sanity and No One Lives Forever, allows for a full range of cutting edge graphic effects, from spectacular lighting to highly detailed character models. The engine also allows designers to create breath-taking outdoor areas from magnificent mountain ranges to sprawling cities.
