i agree with you about unreal and unreal tournament though. i returned ut about a week after i bought it because of the crappy performance i was getting.

I thought SoF's soundtrack was kinda repetitive. Probably because I ignored it over my gunfire. :)

I thought Half-Life's soundtrack was very well done... the music is cool, and it wasn't playing all the time. At certain key points in the game it'd start up, just to enhance the feel. Jolly well done.

I never really liked Tribes' music. It was ok, and 'alright' to play to, so I left it on.

Diablo has a great strack, too. Diablo 2's should be even better.

But what about Starcraft... Terran music SUCKED. Protoss was cool, bu the Zerg music is the best. Just wicked.

Rayman (1) takes it easily.

the only good music nowadays from bands that started in the 90's would be Stone Temple Pilots and the Stereo M.C.'s in my opinion. I still dig Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, U2 there music withstands the changing decades and they always come up with something new or different that sounds great.

For the dude who said Sasha sucks pick up the Xpander cd, I agree that some of his shit is too repetitive but that mini-album is pretty badass.

Other than that a-ha, Delerium, Moby, the Prodigy, Simple Minds, Icehouse and Iva Davies, Moby, Dire Straits, Midnight Oil, Eurythmics, Chris Issak, Alice in Chains, Leonard Cohen, Gavin Friday and the man Seezer, Daft Punk, the Chemical Brothers, Orb, Orbital all own.

The only really hard rock long hair band that was ever any good was Sisters of Mercy, they owned. "25 whores in the room next door, 25 floors and i need more, I'm looking for the can in the candy store!"

SOF music is very, very good. Intense w/ the dynamic theme's and all.

ummm... the only thing i ever really liked about the crue was tommy lee, cuz i play drums, and he's a hell of a drummer (rock drummer, anyway). the rest are all pretty much worthless, musically speaking.

Motley Crue was on a "Behind the Music" thing on VH1, and it was probably the best one ever in my opinion! Not because their music is good, but because they all lived totally fucked up lives...Nikki Sixx having his heart stop, going home, injecting the hugest amount of H he's ever done, and waking up in a bloody pool with the needle still in his arm...Vince Neil killing that friend of his in the passenger seat in a drunk drinving accident, etc etc. It fucking rocked!..even thouh Crue blows.

Oh yeah! Crue played our school a few years ago, and they played in one of the shittiest dive bars on campus...so all the tight-jeans local yokels flocked to the show in their pickups...sadsadsad.

Mp3's take *maybe* 5% of the cycles on a Pentium II+ cpu. It's more like 3%. Many games use MP3s for the soundtrack.

Good game soundtracks?

The *best* one I've heard is the soundtrack for Outcast. Any of you play that game? incredible stuff. Anyways, the soundtrack was performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Simply incredible.

Would anyone agree with me that Sierra just plain sucks? I hate 'em. They destroy nearly every game development company they have... look what happened to Red Baron 2. SUCKS.

Dynamix and Valve better get the hell out before Sierra destroys them too... The King's Quest series went to hell, and Starsiege fell short of expectations... Well, mine at least. :)

Well anyways, the guy who ran the site was always getting in arguments with developers about how much they suck, publishers suck, and why he justified warez. Wish I could remember the site. Used to be popular way back then.

I think the music in TA is at least as good as WC2. Starcraft's music did get a bit annoying after a while, but the expansion pack had better music, at least I think so.

I've spent a good portion of my life hating motley crue, and now they're about to contaminate my favorite game? This can't be happening. Whoever is responsible for this should be fired.

oh, so they're just producing a single and some sound effects. much different than the entire soundtrack.

There have only been 2 truely great PC game soundtracks. 1) Quake2 and 2)Tomb Raider (1st one only). IMHO.

Sierra.... why not 'Poison' or 'Great White' or any of the other washed up glam rock bands that never were worth a sh*t. Oh, I got an idea, 'LA Guns' man, they rock.

What would actually be good are some bands like TypeO Neg, NIN, or similar for the hard core frag music. For the subtler music, a band like Garbage. I think 'The Crystal Method' would be good for techno where needed .

Whenever a game or movie announces something like this, it makes me cringe and suspect that it is being geared toward 12 year olds.

55, So maybe you(and everyone else here) will like what Crue does in Tribes 2.

fyi- 'Yes' only did one song on the Homeworld soundtrack, and it was ok at best.

And I like Yes, but mostly the '70's stuff in a 'roundabout' way ;)~

I don't think this is a case of Sierra catering to "12-14 year olds." They weren't even old enough to know the music.

What it is is the game developers and the publishing people reliving THEIR youth. Just like every genre/era makes a "comeback" in a later generation (i.e, platform shoes, tie dye, old bands reforming and touring again, etc.), so are the adults behind this game catering to their own memories. These guys are the long-haired rockers who were themselves in their teens and 20s during the '80s.

They're making a mistake though 'cos the demo for this type of game has mostly passed them by. The under-20 set that will/may play this game listen to TODAY'S rock stars and that's what Sierra doesn't understand.

This happens all the time though. Makes me feel like I'm in a timewarp. (Remember Yes in Homeworld? Same thing.)

Plus, it's my opinion that most "standard/metal" rock music just doesn't "go" with the gameplay. (It sounds way too canned and has no atmosphere.) If you are going to go that route you have to go with a band like Ministry or, on the ambient side, any number of electronica groups like Autechre, etc.

Yeah, broken is some amazing fragging music. Nothing beats Happiness in Slavery or Wish....ahh.

If you get the chance, check out the broken movie over on http://www.nineinchnails.net . It's basically a snuff film set to the broken album, and its severely demented. Its also 300 megs...
