Alpha Protocol Trailer: The Joy of Killing Terrorists

The latest trailer for Obsidian's espionage RPG Alpha Protocol examines how players "customize their Michael Thorton into the spy they want to be" in various safehouses.

The best part? When Thorton examines a memento from a past excursion and laments, "why can't all terrorists be as fun to kill as you?"

Published by Sega, Alpha Protocol hits PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 6.

Is anyone else hoping for some Deus Ex parallels here? The choice to go tech/soldier/stealth, the skill upgrades, the weapon add-ons. I guess for me it comes down to how open the mission design is and how many ways you can approach each situation. I replayed Deus Ex probably six times and had more and more fun.

The game seems like it's merging in things from other genres, but it looks like it's going to be awesome as a shooter. Look at how many weapons the game has. I love how they're just not doing a few guns like the average run of the mill fps game.

It's funny. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on quality over quantity these days, but that seems to have been taken as "quantity is a bad thing." What's wrong with both?

Looks pretty good to me. The devil will be in the details, of course... I'm confident the RPG aspects will be fine, but, as this is their first shooter, I'm still waiting to see how the combat feels.
