God of War Novelisations Announced

3
Publisher Del Rey has announced it is to publish two novels based upon the ultra-violent video game series, the first arriving alongside God of War 3 in March 2010.

"With all the thrilling action that got fans hooked on the game," the press release states, "the novel GOD OF WAR takes us deeper into this fascinating world." Readers are promised battles against not only mythical monsters but inner demons too.

The first novel is written by Matthew Stover, who has authored several Star Wars novels including the novelisation of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

A God of War movie is also in the pipeline, directed by X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner and written by David Self, who wrote the screenplay for Road to Perdition.

"Hargh!" cried Kratos as he crushed the skeleton's skull with the Blades of Athena. "Hnnnrhnnh!" he groaned, sweeping away more skeletons with mighty swings. Leaping into the air, Kratos slammed the great weapons down, rendering the deadly undead horde a harmless shower of bones.

"I miss my wife!" roared the god of war.

"As Kratos swung into the sky, the hydra opened its massive jaws to catch him. With a deft press of the X button, he slammed his blades into the scaly cheek of the beast, carving his way down its massive neck. A triangle appeared, but in Kratos bloodthirsty haste, it was ignored. He would have to try again."

I believe every game released deserves this level of literary reinterpretation.

      From Wikipedia:
Matthew Stover is actually a pseudonym for videogames journalist Alice O'Connor, one of the many crazy people working for website ShackNews.com.

O'Connor is a noted cephalopod fan whose posts are often filled with subtle hints of her devotion to our future squid overlords.

      Huh... weird.
