DICE's downloadable multiplayer-only shooter Battlefield 1943 launched today on Xbox 360, as celebrated by a new launch trailer, though it's been a rough landing.

"Good news, the game is incredibly successful beyond even my expectations," writes producer Gordon Van Dyke in a forum post. "We have reached server capacity, but the bad news about this now [means] some people can't join unless someone leaves."

More servers are currently being added to resolve the issue, and in preparation for the PlayStation 3 launch of the $15 game tomorrow. A PC release is due in September.

Hehe again, ooh we didn't think we'd be hit this hard! Why don't they plan for the worse with stuff like this?

Because this much bandwidth never gets used except on the first week of a product launch. If they did pay to prepare for that much bandwidth, then the bandwidth (and the money going toward maintaining it) would go to waste most of the time where there isn't a massive new online game to be downloaded and paid.

They underestimated server needs really bad if there are problems before 9am PST.
What happens when everyone gets home from work?
This is rather sad because the game is really fun to play, if you can actually get in a server and if it isn't a total lagfest.

I hope they iron this out in the 24 hours they have before the PSN release hits because I've been waiting on this little number. Anything Battlefield and for $15 you could do plenty worse, this may be one of the best deals of the summer.
