Carmack Workshop Write-up

Eurogamer has a good write-up of the John Carmack workshop from yesterday at the Razer / CPL event. He touched on a number of subjects, but also a little bit on their next project (after the mission pack), saying they will be taking a "somewhat different direction" with it, and probably won't be relevant to competitive gaming.

  • Alright, you asked for it, remember that...

    Damn this GT Games forum...
Point by point, error by error.

Wonder what a poll at the shugashack would reveal about your nvidia likings?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That I would like to own nVidia video cards? That I bought one once, but it wouldn't work because my system is crappy and I had to take it back and get two Voodoo2s because they wouldn't interfere with my onboard video card?

So basically you're half-assed admitting you are comparing apples to oranges because what you meant to say earlier is compared to todays engines the Q1 engine was slow. But since you have been caught, there were no good games back then? Bahh! You can lie better than that Daggy, come on. I've seen your work at teh Shack for a while now, this ine is weak.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How is that apples and oranges? DOOM > Quake. DOOM > Duke Nukem 3D. DOOM > All other FPS shooters, though Dark Forces was somewhat of a challenge to it. (DF rocked.)

Either you played it on pansy mode, you don't consider shooting at every corner fast, or your whining about the engine. You prick, err, pick.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Either you're intolerant, or you're an assh0le. Take your prick, err, pick.

That was "weak," even for you.

Thought you hadn't played the game?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven't? That's odd...I'd not be bashing it so much if I hadn't played it. I've got it on my hard drive right now, in fact (I didn't pay for it, though.)

BULL, never mind, I am not even going to take that bait.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't. I copied Unreal off a friend's computer and played around with it, but I never got hooked, and deleted it. There is no unreal folder on my hard drive.

In reference to DOOM and my love for the game:

    Umm, never?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of this was found in Shugashack Info page on me

"Heh, that was SO directed at me. DOOM rocks!"

"#83, hey prower, OT: what the hell happened to Doomworld? They've gone nazi...the ****ing *****es." (Doomworld.com)

"#58, I've never talked about this on the Shack before, but I think we all focus too much on the game engine. I understand what you're saying about the netcode...it's fundamentally important to the gameplay. But the number of polygons that the engine can render honestly doesn't mean crap. It's the gameplay that really counts... ...why do you think I still play DOOM? "

    (talking about frame rate again)

"#171, but we did do 180 spins. I don't see your point. Super-high frame rates also don't help to explain why games with engines that can attain them (Quake, 2, 3) still don't have better gameplay than a game who couldn't get over 35 frames per second (DOOM). If you want to argue which has better gameplay, and you're not arguing for DOOM's sake...quite simply, you're a dumbass."

If I've never said anything about my love for DOOM on the Shugashack, why did I constantly use it as an example when talking about UT's frame rate?

Oh yeah, I've got a DOOM webpage if you'd like to see it. I can show you the DOOM levels that I've made, if you'd like to see that. Here's a review to one of my DOOM levels: Review of DGDM4

If you want more quotes about me talking about DOOM on the Shugashack, I'd be glad to provide them for you, ass.

    Oh yeah, about 3dfx:

"#15, yeah, I'd agree with you, but being a 3dfx user (I'm too poor to upgrade), I pretty much hate 3dfx...I've had more than my fair share of problems with two V2-1000's and a Diamond Monster 3D II...and their tech support sucks ass."

"I hate to defend 3dfx here, but we've survived pretty well with 16 and 32-meg video cards for a while now. 64? Whatever. The only thing you could use it for is larger textures...and who here is actually planning on staring at walls? Even the Voodoo2 12meg (on a fast enough computer) can handle detail textures in Unreal Tournament, for example...that looks crisp enough for me just at a glance. There comes a time when new technology isn't actually applicable or useful (for now, at least...I know better than to say it'll never be useful..."64k will be enough for anyone" is dead wrong, just as I would be eventually if I was talking in a longer time frame anyway), sorta like FSAA and all of the other 3dfx bull**** (imho) features that 3dfx is offering"

But where is that 4.14 patch to patch that 4.13 mess your gods made? And that final Unreal patch [taking bets on whether Daikatana will beat it out, now.]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My gods? When have I ever said that the Epic guys were my gods? I like Unreal Tournament a lot...that does not translate into me worshipping Epic, not over one game. And I'll say again, I don't have much interest in Unreal.

(more posts by me on the Shugashack)

"#3, you consider Sweeney a god? I'm sorry, but that's complete and utter bull****. I _LIKE_ UT, but I would be hesitant to call Mr. Sweeney a 'great' programmer... "

    " [ view replies ]
#10, well, Epic supports its engines very well, and the development tools for Unreal Tournament are extremely easy to use. However, imo, the Q2 and Q3 engines are clearly better...though I guess I should take it easy on Sweeney, since Unreal was his first 3D engine. Whatever...I don't think he deserves "God" status like Carmack does "

And? the fact that my nick is a troll clears you of this charge how? I hope everyone here recognizes the accuracy. You troll non-stop. Then accuse everyone else who doesn't agree wioth your opinion of doing that very thing.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At least I admit to it. And you're still even worse of a troll...at least I don't go around under a nick like Q3Sucks to voice my opinion or some crap. I also don't try to make up crap when I'm trying to find something to flame. So I'm not a liar, not like you.

Are you wrong? Why, yes, you are.

And you still shouldn't copulate. Go look the word up in a dictionary, if you don't know what it means.

Would you like me to go on?

  • Hehe, daggy, I got bored the other day though, adn decided to start snooping around in the Geforce 5.14 Detonators. Interesting stuff can happen if you add the Dword PALETTEENABLE to your D3D registry under

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0000\NVIDIA\Direct3D]

and set it to a nonzero value. unfortunately it only lets the system report the ability of palleted textures, they can't actually be used, they look hideously colored. I used FF8Demo for verification and its config, they passed the "test" with this added, but when running the game the colors were hideous. I wonder if I could make UT look like that. Ahh, I'd have to reinstall it then. I don't know if a couple of funky pictures are worth it. Of coure, if I sent it in as a complaint to GT, I could keep them busy for years trying to track that down, no, no I couldn't, they'd just ignore it anyway, wouldn't they?.

Putzboy. Go play with your little manwhoar.
