Morning Discussion: Robot Dinosaurs
The way I see it, the only real problem with robot dinosaurs is when you stay too close to the original design. Did Grimlock really need those teeny tiny T-Rex arms and an even smaller brain? I can understand staying true to the source material, but still...

I'm still on your team. I watched Transformers when it came out, just like every other eleven year old kid my age. I bought the toys. However, even that young I still thought robot dinosaurs was pretty fucking silly. Up there with the idea of a crack team of Special Forces with awesome weapons who can't hit shit (except ceilings, floors, and inanimate objects).

I completely agree. When you escalate the robots up to Devastator, you have to escalate the implications for getting your shit pushed in.
Devastator was a heavily wasted opportunity for that "we are really really fucked" moment. I am still upset they didn't have them fight separately, get mixed up with the goddamn twins and whatever, THEN form devastator and kill the twins and everything looks like it's going to shit
oh well. I didn't mind the length of the movie at all, but I would have trimmed out some stuff to enhance mother fucking Devastator's screen time.-
You could easily cut 45 minutes out of that movie without losing much of the important content. Hell, cut out all the unnecessary scenes of US military equipment moving around (planes, boats, troops, etc) and there is 20 minutes right here.
The last half our of the film was the biggest problem for me. I was ok with the pacing up until that point, but that last section was all useless setup and distractions leading up to a very abrupt final battle.
