Ion Assault Coming to XBLA This Summer

4
A new Geometry Wars-esque shooter from German developer Coreplay is coming to Xbox Live later this summer.

The space shooter offers four scenarios, with typical features such as powerups and upgradeable spaceships. A gameplay element based on energy particles provides the game's primary twist. As publisher Black Inc. describes:

In Ion Assault, instead of conventional weapons, players use the free energy particles that are abundant in space to fend off swarms of aliens. The particles are bundled and the player is able to shoot them at asteroids and enemy ships. The particles are not destroyed in this process, but are redistributed in space, ready to be magnetically attracted again and re-used. Their random distribution makes for dynamic gameplay and calls for a more strategic approach.
The game will also include multiplayer modes and leaderboards. The price: 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

Geometry Wars controlled so much better for me with the pc/keyboard than 360 controller. I'd like to see more games like this come to PC.

There are tons of great freeware GeoWars-likes around, you just have to look for them.

Geometry Wars is one of the few games I'd say needs to be played with a 360 controller.
