I think SFIV rapidly aged the already ancient sprite graphics to the point where it starts to bug me.

Conversely, I look at the sprites and find that I'm still impressed by how well they stand up.

To me, sprites look great in the context of their own games. Its only when they're put into other, more recent sprite games that they show their age. The key example of this is the Darkstalkers Morrigan sprite being reused in CvS/CvS2.

Na I think sprites like these hold up better than most 1-st gen polygon games. Besides the demo looks really good on the "crisp" setting. It gets rid of all this pixels and makes it look pretty smooth and sharp.

Interesting comment. I had the pleasure to play SFIV yesterday for PC a day early and I have to say the animation never seems to get old or stop overwhelming me.

The game is truly fantastic. But I also play Darkstalkers 3 and a bunch of other CPS2 games via emulator and I have to say that it still has its own beauty. Its hard to hate sprites but I agree its time to move away and follow the SFIV route.

But you have to say BlazBlue looks insane? I am sure the new KOF will be rad. But I would think for devs a 3d model is billions of times easier to work with than drawing every single freeking frame.

I use 3DS MAX and render my animation frame by frame rather than animating it old school works great for 2D.

me too. Blazblue and KOF look like shit after SF4. Animation just look choppy and ugly.

I don't think you have time to look at the graphics... really...
