New StarCraft 2 Footage Released

The original StarCraft is still widely considered the best RTS game available over a decade after its release. When a game lasts that long without feeling dated on a gameplay standpoint, you'd be smart to not mess too much with the basic formula.

It's a game that also offers something for everyone. The hardcore will obviously get their fix, but those who like the more fresh stuff have the new adventure/rpg mode singleplayer stuff they're doing, which IS new to the genre. And after that's done you can bet that there will be an endless sea of awesome custom maps made by fans with the new editor (something only Blizzard RTS games provide).

Then we got the new Battle.net 2.0, and to think the old Battle.net 1.0 has yet to be surpassed.

StarCraft / WarCraft has always been so much more than just the hardcore multiplayer competition.

I find it hard to believe some of you watched the same footage I just did. While the aesthetics might not be to your taste, they are incredibly well realized and executed. The visuals alone would be enough to entice me, the game's pedigree notwithstanding.

Please just give a date! A month at least. Later this year could be at 12/31/2009 at 11:59PM.

There are some major flaws with this video.

The first flaw is the poor unit mixture in the battles shown. 20 of X vs 20 of Y does not make for an interesting battle, and is usually an inefficient usage of resources. It gives of the impression that repetitively tank rushing/spamming is how the game is won. This is false.

The second flaw is that there is a very little amount of interesting micromanagement shown, or unit abilities. Just very generic and basic mechanics.

The third flaw is that there is no explanation or commentary to explain what is going on to viewers that have not played starcraft, or kept up to date with the latest changes.

In essence, this video does not do justice to the game, and is very boring. If you want a good indication of the excitement and gameplay of starcraft, watch one of the battle reports, or the protoss / terran videos.

Seems like I've played this a thousand times before... Does this bring anything new to the genre at all?

The instant-turning of units looks kinda retarded.

And the Protoss have "Atlantis" (from Stargate) as a flying unit heh.

I'm looking forward to the one player game more than anything, so screw you guys! My only beef was that giant UFO just kinda disappearing and leaving a tiny puff of smoke when it was destroyed.

Looks like a game for the hardcore rts players. To me it seems pretty dull and my dislike for the visual style is akin to Halo. Aside from that, the graphics are definitely nothing special.

Taking a step back in terms of game presentation. Does not interest me. I got the original no need for this.
