Crackdown Dev Working on Second 'Ambitious' MMO

Realtime Worlds, developer of Crackdown and the upcoming GTA-esque MMO All Points Bulletin, is working on a "very ambitious" second MMO, according to Gamasutra.

Company CEO David Jones, co-creator of the original Grand Theft Auto, today announced the existence of the project during a keynote presentation at the GameHorizon conference.

Though Jones did not comment on the nature of the game, he did reveal that the company's 2005 raising of $30 million in venture capital, assumed to be collected for APB, was in fact meant for the unannounced project.

"It's even more ambitious than APB," said Jones. "We'll enjoy talking about that in 2010."

This seems a little soon to be dual tasking MMO's. Especially since its so difficult to dislodge the WoW behemoth.

Not everyone is trying to dislodge WoW. This isn't even going to be competing for WoW's type of customers.

WoW is an enigma. Fortunately one does not have to obtain WoW subscriber numbers to turn a profit. However a single "small-time" dev taking on two mmo's is just plain retarded. That money should be put into the one they are currently working on so it can have a fighting chance at launch.

WoW is an enigma? Do you know Blizzard or do I have to point at the writing on the wall?

They got a solid gold reputation. And WoW is based on a renowned franchise. Not just any franchise, tv movies or cards or whatever, a videogame franchise that is worth its weight in gold. Warcraft 3 even prefaced the coming of WoW. WoW as an MMO is like 10 years in the making, going all the way back to Warcraft orcs and humans.

With so much preparation in place, is it any wonder it's a runaway victory?

WoW is an enigma. Prior to WoW, it was practically unheard of to have 1 million MMO subscribers. I think people thought WoW would be a success, but I think even Blizzard was surprised at just how successful it became.

      This

They should release one MMO to see how people like it before moving on to another idea.
