Morning Squidussion
by Alice O'Connor, Jun 23, 2009 7:00am PDTEveryone welcome Nick back from his unusually busy vacation. The poor soul just wanted some rest and relaxation, but no matter where he went--the Orient express, an English manor house, New York, a sleepy Maine fishing village--murders and mysteries were abound. He ended up spending his time dashing around questioning suspects and searching for clues rather than burning to a crisp and wearing straw hats daubed with amusing slogans as he should have been. Bless his little white cotton socks.

"This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with. Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the f*** out of there."

The under water controls still sucked, nothing new there.
The last enjoyable "platformer" title I played through was Conker's Bad Fur Day or whatever it was called. Sure it was disgusting and immature, but it was fun to play. Sure the gameplay was nearly identical as any other 3d platformer, but other aspects of the game made it fresh and a blast to play through.
Aside from storyline and content there's not much that you can add to the 3d platformer genre that doesn't come across as gimmicky shit after 5-6 hours. Everything about the Wii is gimmicky shit.
Zelda: TP was Ocarina of Time with gimmicky controls (though I did like it's slightly darker take - but 90 percent of the game played like OOT). Metroid Prime 3 was the same as MP1/2 with gimmicky controls that I've publicly hated whenever it comes up. Smash Bros was boring without someone else to play with in a social setting.
