Morning Discussion: Hello Tomorrow
by Chris Faylor, Jun 22, 2009 6:58am PDTYou'll have to excuse me, I made the mistake of poking about for news before really starting to write Morning Discussion, so I'm a bit ...pre-occupied. Have a good one today!

Anyway, I've never owned an iPhone before and just love this thing. Anyone want to share their 3GS impressions? How is it compared to previous versions?

Also, Bethesda, we need a Wasteland 360 premium theme already. I will buy it immediately.

I just got a squier affinity strat as a gift, and I would not mind the cheapness and the fact that it's the wrong type of guitar for me(which would be easily changed), but for some reason these affinities are abnormally narrow at the nut while my fingers are not. I think I'd much rather enjoy something more like 43mm or 1 11/16". Again that's moddable but I'd rather not start with everything wrong. Fortunately I can probably still return this Squier kit if I choose. (Could throw in a better amp that way too)
I've been reading about the Epiphone G-400 SG. It has a slightly shorter scale length and a couple fewer frets than some others, but it definitely looks good. But of course when I start looking at anything like an Ibanez, Jackson, B.C. Rich or ESP in the $400 range they look pretty nice too.
I haven't yet started checking these things out in person, but before I do I'd like to see if I can get some info on what's unexpectedly bad or surprisingly good from people who know way more about it than me.

Let talk about how freaking sweet this game is going to be.

I just watched the last episode of Season 4, which is also the last episode ever.
The ending was hard to digest, but perfect at the same time. A classic moment of gold entertainment.
I have to say this was one of the best series i ever watched (overall).
But number one is still my buddy Dexter :D

So, for whatever reason I ended up with Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold and an expansion pack for Father's Day. Kooky, because it wasn't even something I had mentioned as wishing to own. Nevertheless, there it is. Convenient, because I lost the manual for the original copy I had, making the game rather hard to install.
So, I'm thinking of diving back into this tonight and engaging in some horrible OCD RPG fun. What's a good character to play with? I've been reading some of the character creation guides, and the whole mutli-classing thing scares the hell out of me. Is it really a better option to take say a few levels in 2 or 3 classes, rather than devoting everything to say a Rogue, or Fighter?

What this means in basic terms is that when you buy a hard drive that says 320GB on the box, it now displays as 320GB in the OS, rather than 297GB. There has always been a discrepancy between actual hard drive size versus what hard drive maker advertise, because the OS has been more accurate in counting whereas the drive makers give a more aesthetically pleasing rounded number.
I assume that they'll also have to change the way file size is displayed so that it still gives an accurate account of how full the drive is, but it means that most files will appear to be a miniscule bit larger than they actually are.
Maybe this is how Apple will claim that after installing Snow Leopard, you'll have more free hard drive space. ;)

I didn't understand any of the plot but it was certainly worth watching anyway and was very weird and all of the gunfights were really well done.
Also I got my new widescreen TN panel and the colors of The Shack look really washed out compared to my 2001FP (IPS or something like that) but I will probably get used to that and movies look absolutely beautiful.

Good news / Bad news...
I find myself having a hard time logging into the game these days... I guess the MMO bug has left me for a while. I'm in BC, and i just find it really un-interesting. I'm REALLY looking forward to the star wars MMO, especially if they can pull off what they say with the casual game + epic storylines..
In WoW i seem to just log in once every other week or so, finish a few quests and log off. I'm only lv 63.. but I really want to see past the BC expansion :(

You know what I want to see? A grocery store to create a dynamic e-shopping list.
Basically you browse the products you want online and create a list that tells you your total and everything, and then you select which local store you want to go to.
Then you print out your list (or even sync it to a mobile device) and it will tell you where in the store all the items you're looking for are. Even something as simple as the aisle numbers would help, but I don't imagine it would be too difficult to be even more specific than that, giving left or right side / shelf information either. With a little tweaking to the in-store inventory they could even get ultra-specific by using a theatre style numbering system for the shelves as you go down an aisle.
They could even take it a step further and have a seperate checkout aisle for e-shoppers where they scan a bar code on your printed list before scanning your items and can then tell you if you forgot anything. Hell they could even give special discounts for certain item combinations similar to newegg with this to try and push items they need to sell worse.
Something like this would really make me dread grocery shopping much less and although it could potentially have a slight negative impact on the random "oh that looks good" purchases (or the dreaded grocery shopping while hungry massive purchases) I think it could drive business a lot and maybe even increase sales as people feel less rushed to find the next item.
Thoughts? Any other ideas on tech things that could be implemented to improve other menial tasks that can't really be replaced on the internet (yet)?

AV-30s: bit smaller, $100, they say sound is excellent for the price and size.
AV-40s: bit bigger (not that much), heavier, $150, they say sound is powerful and nearly perfect for stereo speakers of their kind.
Any one own these?

Hi everyone. So, we're having a Shackmeet this Saturday in Toronto.
The plan was originally to go to the Toronto Islands, but then we found out that there's some naked Pride event on the island that day and also the ferry workers are on strike so we might not even be able to get there on Saturday.
BUT WE'RE STILL GOING TO DO SOMETHING, even if it is a naked gay shackmeat.
Details and stuff will be in the Facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=178327835506
Also join the group if you haven't already! We do stuff a lot. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=125745685696

This is sort of what it's like, and this or something like this happens in every online game I've tried so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDdCNOVRhak
In TF2 when I it happens the screen flashes a bit and I get reset to where I was 2 seconds ago. Everything is basically unplayable :( If anyone has another suggestion of something to try, I'm listening.
