Magic: The Gathering Walks the Xbox Live Arcade Planes Alongside Sam & Max This Wednesday

11
Coming on Wednesday to Xbox Live Arcade are Telltale Games' Sam and Max Save the World and the epically-named Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers.

Duels of the Planeswalkers reproduces Wizards of the Coast's popular collectible card game, with ranked and unranked multiplayer both competitive and co-operative.

As previously detailed, Sam and Max Save the World collects the first season of Telltale's episodic adventure series starring the world's favourite gun-toting dog and lagomorph duo with widescreen support, Xbox-friendly controls and achivements.

Duels of the Planeswalkers' card-battling action is priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10) while Sam and Max's zany adventures will run you 1600 MS Points ($20)

Playing MTG on XBLA sounds awesome, but from what I've read the deck customization is limited. That would be a serious deal breaker for me. Guess I'll wait a week and read some impressions before putting down the points.

Eh, I play a lot of MTGO so I'm not really looking for a complete deckbuilding experience. I guarantee the game will be severely lacking in general, but If I can get 10-20 good fun hours of playing the challenges and co-op then that will be plenty.

After all, a single draft on MTGO costs more than this entire program.

I think that's actually kind of the point. It's a way to play MTG with a relatively even playing field, no having to buy packs of random cards, just a bunch of pre-made decks and enjoyable games against people.

You can play with preconstructed decks on MTGO for free though. The decks are boring though and playing against equally boring decks every time wears thin very quickly.

I am also very excited. Just to make sure, this is lime one time and you get the cards kind of thing right? Not like MTGO where you need to buy or trade decks?

Right. There's something like...8? 10 decks? Something like that. Each deck is pre-built, although there's some limited customization from what I've heard. I believe you can unlock more cards/decks through the campaign mode, so it might not all be available at the start.

But it's definitely not anything like MTGO.

That is great. This will make the game much more fair and balanced (i.e. the one with the most free time and money wins). That will probably turn away the hardcore MTG players (I hope it doesn't) and I hope it brings in some new ones.

I'll be buying this and hope some shackers will want to play. SM me if interested!

I would be if it were close to real MTG
