Persona PSP Gets Release Date, English Screenshots

2

The PSP re-release of Atlus' demonic PlayStation RPG Persona will arrive in North American stores on September 22, the company announced today. In conjunction with the date, Atlus provided the first screenshots of the new English localization.

Said to be "remastered" over the 1996 PlayStation original, which featured a group of high schoolers battling demons in an alternate world, the PSP edition of the turn-based cult classic packs new animated cutscenes, new content, and "design improvements."

I think by "design improvements" they mean all the Americanization and censorship from the original release has been undone. For example the character with the goofy yellow hat was redrawn as a black kid and several other chracters were altered to make them look less Asian. Also all sorts of stuff like name changes, the currency being changed from Yen to dollars, and Japanese cultural elements being removed.

Though they have reduced the number of random encounters form "The devs hate you" insane to only "mildly annoying." The random battles were so bad I never did finish the game.

Hopefully if this sells well Atlus will release new versions of Persona 2. Both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment.

You do realize that the PS1 Persona 1 actually had its random battle frequency turned down significantly over the Japanese version, right? That's why the amount of experience you earned from "normal" monsters was bumped up so high.
