Shack PSA: Xbox Live Going Down Next Tuesday

11
Organizing a table-top gaming session? Next Tuesday might be the day for it, as Microsoft has announced it will be shutting down Xbox Live for maintenance starting that morning.

The tune-up will begin on June 16th at 12:01am PST, and could last up to 24 hours.

While the maintenance is related to upcoming Xbox Live features--such as the announced avatar marketplace, Xbox 360 digital download store, and Last.fm music streaming, plus Facebook and Twitter integration--users should expect no new functionality to immediately follow the down-time.

The idea of the avatar marketplace makes me sick. People willing to shell out real money for digital clothes on useless digital people make me sick.

How is this at all different from people willing to shell out a premium for designer clothes?

You did not pay $200 for those jeans because they "fit" better. Its all for show. :\

Sounds like you hate just about every person on the planet.

It's my money. I'll do whatever the fuck I want with it.

I think it would be cool if they come out with Master Chiefs armor to buy or armor/clothing from Fable 2. That would be awesome! But the whole money idea..... meh.

Also, I forgot to mention. When this update rolls out, you will get another 2 year warranty with your Xbox 360, because you might get the "e75-yourfucked" error.

Doesn't matter to me, i couldn't care less about avatars. Someone somewhere is doing work to create the clothing for the avatars, so i don't have a problem with ms charging for that.

This is no different than Home. Please spend 2 dollars on a fake stove for your fake house that your fake (and somehow always fatter) version of yourself doesnt even fakely use.

      Hooray for disposable incomes!

Didnt microsoft initially say they would do clothes tied to achievments? i.e. unlock an achievment, get a free t-shirt! that was an awesome idea.

imagine having a t-shirt that let everybody know u found all the hidden orbs in crackdown. that wud b a better incentive than just boosting gamerscore!

They are still supposedly doing that. Its a by dev basis though. If they dont want to spend waste their time making them, then they wont.

I heard that for ODST for example you're able to get some USMC armor for your avatar.

You cant believe what the guy that sold us our XBOX told: that achievement points could be changed for games. Like if they were microsoft points.

Eh, if it really is a trouble to pay a few bucks, then something's up with your income.
