E3 Morning Discussion: with a Vengeance
by Alice O'Connor, Jun 03, 2009 7:06am PDTIt's a gorgeous June day so we, of course, are locked away writing about video games. And we can promise there will be many a video game to write about today, for now is the time of video games. Those good old games. Still, who needs the sunshine when we have the many incredible announcements made so far this week?
Keep an eye on our E3 category for all our E3 coverage, which includes an interview with Valve's Doug Lombardi and Chet Faliszek, previewing God of War 3, questioning Dragon Age's attempts at sexuality, and gushing over Fallout 3 Point Lookout's mutated inbreds.

DNF was a no show. Here's hoping for next year.
Also, MAG doesn't look as good as it sounded. Perhaps if it was being made by Dice or Infinity Ward, I'd be a bit more receptive.

Could someone post this weekend's games? I missed 2 of them I think from the Intel Classic league, and I completely fail at finding them.

REPOST FOR THE DAY WALKERS
The Sims 3 inspired me to write a review. I've never written a review like this before but I had a lot to say so I felt like writing it all down in one place was a good idea!
It's written with the specific goal of answering the question "What is new?" and after you finish reading it I hope I have answered that question for you.
I have not thoroughly proofread it yet mainly because this took a long fucking time to write and I want to take a break from it but I'd love some feedback.
Here it is in its original form:

I will reproduce it here it in reply...

To me, L4D is more like Tetris and less like Unreal Tournament. One is all about polishing the gameplay mechanic and offering extremely repeatable gameplay (some people talk about playing L4D for over 100 hours and STILL don't think they got their money's worth). The other (UT) is about throwing dozens of maps and weapons at you to make you forget that the gameplay is the same old crap you've been playing over and over. So yeah, in pure numbers, UT3 has way more "content" than L4D or L4D2.
But as far as I'm concerned, the "content" of L4D's gameplay is much higher than many games on the market right now, and that's what I don't understand. It's like everyone who's complaining about content is assuming that gameplay in every single game is equal and that it's just about numbers. That doesn't make any sense to me.

I also have 49GB of non Steam games, which is crazy as well. I never fucking finish any of these, either :(
I'm sure some of you have my beat by a mile.
How big is your Steam/Games folder?
Thinking about getting an AC. Any cheap ones in the area? Looking for one for the bedroom for good sleeping :)

I took some pics the cat I'm watching while his owner is deployed to share with her, and I figured I should contribute more to the Shack than arguments about how crits in TF2 suck. You know how pictures of cats are so intellectually stimulating!

Kudo insinuated that it would be easy for developers to incorporate this tech into pre-existing games, and we have to say, the possibilities are exciting.

Seems to echo a few of the things mentioned in the other one I linked. Once again though, WebOS is looking fantastic and this just sort of reaffirms for me that I dont have to jump to Sprint yet for the phone (if I had Sprint Id still get it though) and will continue to wait for the next hardware iterations.

I'm moving and going through some old boxes that I've been hauling around since college. Recently found items include:
- Planetside install discs with quick reference sheet.
- Original Everquest II box including map and all TEN INSTALL CD's (obviously before DVD's became the norm)
- An old microsoft mouse that quit and for some reason I kept it
- An unused 64 MB portable mp3 player (yes 64 MEGAbytes)
- An unopened VHS movie version of Stephen King's 'Rose Red'
- Battlefield: Vietnam install discs (man I played the crap out of that game)
- Doom 3 install discs
- A beat-up bundle version of PowerDVD
- Old ass IDE cables.
Meeeeeeeemorieeeeeeeees..........

What are you guys listening to as of late? I'm personally a bit obsessed with The Decemberists' The Hazards of Love. I've listened to it, from beginning to end, about five times today. Easily their best album. Easily.
