Nintendo has released the first trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2, which the company announced this morning during its E3 press conference.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is scheduled to arrive on the Wii in 2010.

If memory serves me right, this is the first time a Mario platforming game has had very similar gameplay and appearance to its immediate predecessor since Japan's SMB2 (aka The Lost Levels).

Don't get me wrong, these are great games, but is this all Nintendo has these days? Wii is taking the same path as the Cube....2-3 good Mario games, a couple Metroid, a couple Zelda games and not much else. It'd be nice to see a fresh IP from Nintendo that becomes "classic" like these other franchises.
