New Super Mario Bros. for Wii Announced, Co-op Mario Supports Four Players

20
Nintendo today announced New Super Mario Bros. for Wii, a 2D Mario game that will support four player co-op.

The game resembles the Nintendo DS version of New Super Mario Bros, but allows up to 1-4 players to traverse the 2D levels as characters such as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Toad. Players can switch between single-player and co-op at any time.

"We admit, we haven't quite figured out how to move [Mario] into a fourth dimension," said Nintendo's Cammie Dunaway. "But that number, four, that's the key to Mario's next surprise."

"For the last fifteen years, Mr. Miyamoto has been thinking about one new way to let you play a Mario game that's never been done before."

New Super Mario Bros. will hit the Wii this holiday.

      nintendo's plan all along...

      1. release a wii to huge excitement for only $299
      2. release very few good games
      3. everyone sells their wii in anger
      4. release 2d mario
      5. everyone buys wii again for $299

Not really. Wii is a good innovative platform. They have good titles for it and good third party titles for it. Pacing the releases is a factor of good strategy and probably the fact that they don't have that many devs. Plus, they've gone for quality not quantity.

Not to nitpick, but it costs $250 and they'd sell it for $200 but apparently marketing shows that if it's below $250 too many people consider it a "toy".
