Tales of Monkey Island Announced, Secret of Monkey Island to Be Revamped
by Alice O'Connor, Jun 01, 2009 4:12pm PDTLucasArts' classic Monkey Island adventure series is to continue with Tales of Monkey Island, a new episodic series by Telltale Games, the publisher has announced.
A revamp of The Secret of Monkey Island was also unveiled, updating the series's first title with fully redrawn graphics, re-mastered score and full voiceover, trailered below.
Tales of Monkey Island continues the adventures of hapless would-be pirate Guybrush Threepwood on PC and Wii in five monthly episodes, the first released on July 7. Telltale's team boasts many series veterans, including designers Dave Grossman and Mike Stemmle, composer Michael Land and voice of Guybrush Dominic Armato. Screenshots and concept art give the very first look.
Developed internally at LucasArts, Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition modernises the title with fully redrawn scenes and graphics, and the control bar replaced by a popup menu offering all the original SCUMM options. Armato will also voice Guybrush here.
Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be released on PC and Xbox Live Arcade later in the summer.

Also hate to say it but the art direction seems a little weak. Whats wrong with curse of monkey island style graphics? Why this new "extreme" look?

Dave Grossman (one of the 3 writers on Monkey 1 and 2, co-designer of Day of the Tentacle) is on the design team, along with a lot of guys who worked on the other entries in the series. ... Michael Land's doing the music. ... Dominic Armato's back playing Guybrush. ... Steve Purcell's hand-painting the box art (if you pre-order!) ... Ron Gilbert worked with the team as a story/design consultant.

I hope they decide to remake Monkey island two as well. It would be nice to have the set.
Pre-Ordered!!
Also, that re-make looks pretty damn great as well, definite purchase for me.
I really hope Telltale gets ahold of Maniac Mansion as well.

Microscopic screenshots and video, but it's better than nothing.

The screenshots don't look so ... wonderful ... but if they pay enough attention to the story, they're gonna be great games. And episodic, I'm sold already.
But no word yet on Gilbert's involvement.

because LOOM is going to be such a good game!
Ok that sounds amazing.
Telltale... mmm... maybe. Does anyone else feel guilty for not liking their games that much? Sam & Max for instance felt very I don't know... claustrophobic for adventure games. I hope with Monkey Island they can do bigger environments that really give you that old school wandering around trying to figure shit out feeling.
