IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey Screenshots Illustrate Console Flight Sim
by Chris Faylor, May 28, 2009 12:34pm PDTNew screenshots of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, the first console release of 1C's formerly PC-only wartime flight sim series, have been released by publisher 505.
Coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year, the title is said to sport a "completely flexible difficulty" system that goes "from arcade to realistic simulation." Gaijin Entertainment (X-Blades) is handling development, instead of creator Maddox.
Nintendo DS and PSP versions of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey are also due out sometime this year, respectively developed by DiP Interactive and DYNAMICSYSTEMS.

It looks really good. Paired with an ace combat 6 flight stick and the touted realistic simulation settings this good be a lot of fun even for the hardcore PC simulation people.
Still though, what do current generation console games render at? considerably less than 720p right? - even though they may output signals at up to 1080p
I think I'll wait to play the next PC version on the big screen. Playing large IL-2 multiplayer matches over that 3rd party match making service was terrific fun.

Hopefully the difficulty system won't conflate simpler flying controls and physics with an overall easy difficulty.
