High Voltage Reveals Gory Wii Gladiator Game, Cooperative Werewolf Shooter

As publisher Sega prepares to release High Voltage Software's Wii first-person shooter The Conduit on June 23, the developer has unveiled two additional Wii titles.

The first, The Grinder, is a cooperative shooter that pits up to four players against undead and supernatural creatures of the night, such as werewolfs and vampires.

"We've been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead and there really isn't that kind of frantic cooperative experience on the Wii right now," High Voltage Software chief creative officer Eric Nofsinger explained to IGN. "There's certainly nothing that takes advantage of the Wii hardware the way we are able to with our engine."

Due in "holiday 2010," The Grinder will offer split-screen and online co-op, with players able to choose from four characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The developer also teased that swords and Wii MotionPlus support could make it in.

The second title, Gladiator A.D., is a gory gladiatorial fighting game described by designer David Pellas as "a hybrid between 3D Fighting games like Bushido Blade and Boxing games like Fight Night."

While High Voltage has thus far focused on Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls for Gladiator A.D., complete with Wii MotionPlus support to slightly alter the angle of an attack, the studio said that it is consider more traditional controls as well.

Gladiator A.D. is expected to arrive in Q1 2010. Both Gladiator and Grinder are being powered by an enhanced version of the High Voltage's internal Quantum3 technology, the same engine behind The Conduit. No word yet on a publisher for either game.

I recently started playing my Wii again. For all the flak I gave it... it's really not that bad of a machine. I'm looking forward to e3 announcements and hopefully some great new titles like this one.
