World of Warcraft Druid Forms Getting New Look

The next major World of Wacraft patch will bring a new look for the animalistic Druid class in the form of texture options for its cat and bear forms.

"There will be five different designs for each of these forms for the Horde and Alliance," writes Blizzard. The company plans to introduce out the new designs in four screenshot installments, the first of which highlights the five new textures for the tauren bear form (seen left).

The looks will correspond to the nigh elves' hair color and the skin tone of tauren. The cow-like race will soon be able to change their skin tone at barbershops.

"Work continues on new looks for the remaining druid forms and we hope to add them in future content patches," added Blizzard.

blizz is a little late on this... the druids forums were full of threads asking for new models on forms in 2006 back when I was playing. everything from level based differences in forms to new models from quest rewards etc etc

I would have preferred an overhaul of the system over a new model with slightly more polys and a handful of new textures. I think a system where you could take on the form of any tank-like creature in the world (based on the hunter pet classes) with bolt-on tauren/NE features would have been cool. Ditto with the cat forms.

The fact that the forms will never show gear, which is pretty much the whole point of the game, is pretty disappointing. Another idea would be a were-bear or were-cat form where you can at least remain a biped and wield/wear your gear.

I don't understand why we can't just, say, stick the damn shoulder item models on the bear and cats and whatnot. Maybe strap the staff model to the back? Adapt the helms to fit?

If they can do this, maybe they'll get around to making the undead look halfway decent for a change. Yes, I understand they're "dead" and all, so they shouldn't be merely stinky BElf clones, but some tweaks here and there would be great.

Been playing a druid since I started two years ago, and all I can say is FINALLY. :) I just hope that we dont have Bright green/blue bears for NEs, bears that would just be a bit crap imo. I hope they darken the colours a bit for NEs. Geif black bear skin. :)

As a long-time feral druid player I had hoped for something a bit more complex, perhaps something that would react to what gear I had equipped. But this is a welcome update and finally it will be possible to tell several druids apart in a group with several of us. :)
