Horror Film JU-ON: The Grudge Becoming Wii Game, Promises to Scare Your Mom

A Wii game based off cult classic horror film JU-ON: The Grudge is coming to North America this October, publisher XSEED announced today. The movie is perhaps best known as the inspiration for the Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring remake, The Grudge.

Described as a "haunted house simulator" that focuses on "accessibility and instant scare," the title is being made with the help of film creator Takashi Shimizu. Feelplus, the studio behind Lost Odyssey (X360) and Blue Dragon Plus (DS), is developing.

The game sees players exploring various creepy environments, including an abandoned warehouse, a dimly-lit hospital, and a mannequin factory, while using the Wii Remote as a flashlight. To move forward, simply press a button on the Wii Remote.

"Ever since I first heard about this unique concept, this is a game that I've been looking forward to," said XSEED president Jun Iwasaki. "JU-ON: The Grudge makes quick scares accessible to anyone with a Wii, players can even hand the Wii Remote to their mother and enjoy watching her play and get scared."

And for those that enjoy scaring their mothers or other loved ones, the company noted that "for instant gratification, grab a second Wii Remote and push buttons to make in-game events happen immediately to make the player jump and hate you forever."

Doesn't sound quite as satisfying as exhilarating the same as chasing someone down with a chain-less chainsaw, as some haunted attractions allow their employees to, but close enough, I suppose. An early trailer for the game can be seen below:
