BioShock 2 Multiplayer Detailed

10
2K Games has today revealed details of BioShock 2's multiplayer component, including word that it's set before the fall of Rapture and includes an experience point system.

Delving into the fiction of pre-revolt Rapture as a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, players will duke it out across in the underwater city in locations including the Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites--fully reworked for the multiplayer experience.

Experience points earned--presumably by smashing faces--unlock more weapons, gene tonics and plasmids with which to customise your character. It's yet unclear whether this will be a persistent system--as in Call of Duty 4--or on a per-play basis.

Behind the multiplayer is Digital Extremes, the Dark Sector creator who helped with the PlayStation 3 port of BioShock and co-developed the first three Unreal Tournament titles.

BioShock 2 is set to arrive on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this fall.

So it's a COD4 clone. The more I hear about this game the more I don't want it. I'll wait for reviews but it's not sounding very original.

Yeah. The plasmids and giant drill weapon were the shittiest parts of COD4.

Experience and unlockables are the hot shit in multiplayer now. I think you can expect to see that stuff for the next several years.

Call of Duty 4 DID NOT create unlockables and experience, I've seen this posted all over, Battlfield 2 for the PC created experience and unlockables almost 2 and a half years before.

I thought it sounded quite good.

I would say a COD4 clone is really stretching, but I will agree that I'm getting less interested with everything I hear about it.
I talked to my friend about it yesterday who also loved the original, and we both agreed that the best part of the first game was everything up to and including the "golf club" scene. Everything after that was downhill and got pretty annoying, and it seems as if this new game is going to be an entire game based on the most annoying part of the first one.
But, it's just my opinion, maybe other people really like escort missions. Personally, they could remove escort missions types from every game ever made and I'd be happy as can be. I've never met an AI that was smart enough not to get killed.

I love the idea of experience point-based MP play, as long as it is done like COD4 which basically provided "sheltered" areas where players of low skill can play without being worried about being whooped by well-advanced players, in addition to any free-for-alls. The whole idea with weapons and plasmids are quite comparable to COD4 weapons and perks, and I don't see this being an issue from the MP standpoint.

Not sure about all that, but I just don't think multiplayer has to be shoehorned into every single game. Most of the time it just ends up being not worth the effort they put into it.

COD4 didn't invent xp and unlockables. This is like the furthest thing from COD4. Anyway, that's just one part the game. The real magic is in the story and atmosphere, i.e. single-player.

Experience can work out in many ways.

Change Counter-Strike's dollar sign to read "XP" and you have an experience system which lasts for the map. Or you have Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, where experience and unlocks last for three maps. Or, yes, you could get experience which goes towards permanently unlocking items. We don't know yet.

Something tells me that you won't be dueling big daddies in the dry arab heat with modern weapons. I think your post is far less original than what is described above.
