Valve Talks Team Fortress 2 Sniper Unlockable
by Nick Breckon, May 05, 2009 5:19pm PDTA new post on the official Team Fortress 2 blog has shed some light on Valve's upcoming Sniper update.
"In an effort to reduce some of the aggravation that other players feel towards the Sniper, we chose the goal of designing an unlockable that encouraged the Sniper to get a little closer to his target," writes Valve's Robin Walker.
"We want him to give up some of his primary advantage in return for something else, so that enemies he kills feel like they were engaged with them, and feel like they could have survived if they'd just managed to fight a little better," he teased.
No news on when the update will go live, though it's expected to launch sometime after the head-slot item update.

The pneumatic rifle as seen in No Country for Old Men, usually used in slaughter houses to knock out or kill cattle that are waiting to be gutted. It would be an interesting alternative for the Sniper and would even fit TF2's industrial desert theme.

I hate both playing AS a and AGAINST a sniper when I know how many shots are latency only.

If you add a damage dropoff, it would encourage snipers to fight from corner to corner, popping out to pick off the weak and get slick insta headshots, rather than the conventional camp-across-the-map sniping.
