Plants vs. Zombies Demo Released

Now available on FileShack is the Plants vs. Zombies demo, a 26MB download that allows you to play PopCap's chlorophyll-powered defense force game for thirty minutes.

While the game isn't officially due until tomorrow, the demo enables you to purchase the full version of the PC title from PopCap today. The company is asking $19.95 for its latest,

with the "PLANTS10" coupon code knocking 10% off.

However, there's a cheaper option. Valve's digital distribution service Steam is selling PvZ for a paltry $9.99--half of PopCap's price. The full version unlocks tomorrow morning, with a free copy of Heavy Weapon included as a pre-order incentive.

I really hate casual games like this that come out in 2009 and only support a fixed resolution and no wide screen support. Really...are they serious? This is just like World of Goo, a great casual game that falls short of perfection due to small technicalities. Why?

Looks and sounds great, but this game requires no brains. I'm usually terrible at strategy and tower defense games because I'm too dumb, but this demo had me bored out of my mind.

Now quite the gameplay I was expecting. It ends up being an odd mix between TD and task management (lots of clicking to collect sun). It certainly is a casual tower defense game.

I got to the point where you have to start selecting which plants to have in the level before the demo ran out. It looks like there are quite a few options. Maybe that was in one of the bullet points.

I was a little disappointed that the demo didn't have the song from the music video.

I kind of like it. It's a simplified tower defense. It's unfortunate that the enemies walk up on tracks but it doesn't take too much away.
