Morning Discussion
by Chris Faylor, Apr 28, 2009 6:00am PDTYou know, if Nintendo hadn't mentioned it yesterday, I would have no idea that Mother's Day is coming up this Sunday on May 10. Thanks for having my back, Nintendo.
Speaking of yesterday, I can only hope that today brings the same balance of noteworthy and wacky news. Mr. T and Will Wright fighting Nazis? A post about unicorns and glitter that, somehow, was not written by me? A Marvel vs. Capcom 2 demo this week?
You've got a lot to live up to, Tuesday, but I believe in you. You can do it!

Financing a house seems so convoluted and esoteric. Interest rates (fixed, floating, ARM), amortization, down payment, points, closing costs, taxes, fees, lawyers, escrow, etc. It seems like the process was specifically devised to confuse and befuddle people in order to dupe them. They show you the paper work and rattle off terms as though everyone has a finance degree. Is there an online resource that tries to cut through the bullshit and arms a would be home buyer with some valuable information that can actually save money/prevent being ripped off?
I've been through the process before and I really felt duped. I just don't understand why/how it exists in its current form, really. I don't get why there has to be a fucking file cabinet of paper work. There is so much room to rip people off with the mountains of paper work and legalese. It seems to be purposefully cumbersome as well.

http://austinist.com/2009/04/28/condopocalypse_now_auction_at_brazo.php
Brazos Place has scheduled an auction for May 17, 2009 to sell their twenty remaining unsold units. Starting bids are less than half of the original asking prices - as low as $80,000 for a small one-bedroom, $190,000 for a two-bedroom and $600,000 for the 2,745 sqft penthouse.
These condos are on 8th and Brazos. That's 4 blocks from the Capital of Texas and right in the heart of downtown Austin. That's pretty crazy.

Was really good. Surprisingly funny, plenty of fan service with the dialog and I swear I saw a tribble.
A++ etc
Also, contains the single most-laughable line I have ever heard in a film.

I wonder if this means cross platform play for PC/360? This would be a great game for it, since there's no controller advantages.
Unless you use KB+M for fighting games.

How is it you are seeing this? Are you in the US? It seems the versions Fox released do not have them, and I cannot find an International distributor who sells these in NTSC format. I understand these subtitles make all the difference.

I'm reading through newsarama multipart interview with Alan Moore, (wrote watchmen, v for vendetta, from hell, league of extradinary gentlemen, etc....)
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/040927-Moore2.html
Link for those who are interested
Anyway the man basically shits on comics, the things that made him, saying that comics haven't gotten better, but that society has become dumber, and so they seem better to us now.
Opinions?
My reply is fuck him. I can name at least 5 series that never would've been made if the medium hadn't matured

9-4 (daily) - internship
4:30-9 TR - campaign gig
6-9 MW - income tax course
I'm just trying to figure out if I should take the campaign thing. It'd be nice for the money, but I'm thinking that I'd be fucked as far as actually being able to study for the class.

I think mine has to be Six Feet Under's

I've always hated Battlestar Galactica's and skipped through it every time. Fresh Prince is a given love, and Band of Brothers' score by Michael Kamen was amazing too.

How's this for cable news domination - Fox News beat CNN and MSNBC combined in every hour from 6amET to MidnightET in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo for April 2009....
FNC is the #2 network in Total Viewers on all of cable.

I am in debt for $11,500 AUD on credit cards and personal loan. 12.95% interest on 5500 and 10% interest on the other $5500 or so.
I want to buy a bike for $13,000 AUD. but i will need to take out another loan.
My current bike is worth $8500 AUD.
I can go further into debt, but get a consolidated rate of 7.75% with the new bike and debt, and i have to get the loan over the $20k mark for that rate.
I could then sell my current bike and take that off the loan.
How much would i save on my current debt if i consolidated it with the new bike? Or should i just wipe out my original debt and be happy with the bike i got?
ps. yes interest rates are heaps high here. also, lol at shack financial advice.

I typically implement a basic service layer where most of the functionality lies in my application. Typically these services then have DAO's injected into them through spring. I've always liked this approach but one thing always confuses me. Lets say I have two classes Foo and Bar. Both each have a service and dao class. So I now have FooService, FooDao, BarService, and BarDao. Now lets say FooService needs to get a Bar object from the db through the DAO. Do I have FooService call BarService which then calls BarDao, or do I just have FooService call BarDao directly? The original approach is what I've been doing, cause lets say that load service method does other stuff, which we should never expect the DAO to do, but part of me thinks this is overkill. Thoughts?
