Guitar Hero 2 Tracks Poached for Smash Hits

15
Following through on its promise to string along the track announcements for Guitar Hero Smash Hits as long as possible, Activision today announced the songs pulled from Guitar Hero II for the "best of" project.

The selected tracks include Rush's "YYZ," Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird," and other favorites from Harmonix' second title in the series. Unlike Guitar Hero II, the tunes selected for Smash Hits will be entirely composed of master tracks, 48 of which have been derived from former Guitar Hero setlists. The game hits PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii on June 16.

The full list of GH2 tracks includes:

  • Avenged Sevenfold - "Beast And The Harlot"
  • Rage Against The Machine - "Killing In The Name"
  • Rush - "YYZ"
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Free Bird"
  • Foo Fighters - "Monkey Wrench"
  • Iron Maiden - "The Trooper"
  • Nirvana - "Heart-Shaped Box"
  • Lamb of God - "Laid To Rest"
  • The Police - "Message In A Bottle"
  • Wolfmother - "Woman"
  • Kansas - "Carry On Wayward Son"
  • Stone Temple Pilots - "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart"
  • Warrant - "Cherry Pie"
  • Alice in Chains - "Them Bones"
  • Danzig - "Mother"
  • Jane's Addiction - "Stop!"
  • Reverend Horton Heat - "Psychobilly Freakout"

Free Bird: buy. I'm hoping the note charts kick as much ass as GH2.

I would say the lead will be identical, there will just be lyrics and drums/bass added. What I would really like to see brought back is rhythm for some songs, because a song like free bird has an awesome rhythm line and a fairly standard bass.
This is i think one of the major differences between GHWT and the others, all the songs in GHWT have fairly decent basslines, and sets like the tool set are all about the drums and bass.

As One from GH:M shows, they will rechart it. Especially to make use of purple notes and the new feature where you can hold a long note and tap on other notes.
