Battlefield 1943 Priced, Hitting Consoles First

DICE's downloadable 24-person multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943 will arrive on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this June, the studio announced today, priced at $15.

The promised PC version will then follow in September, carrying the same price point. Technically, it hasn't been delayed, as a vague "summer" release date was originally announced, and summer doesn't end until the autumnal equinox on September 22.

As before, the download-only game packs three maps from 1942--Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima--that have been remade with destructible environments.

"We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title," said producer Gordon Van Dyke.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Ok, I am going to pick it up for that price.

Bastards though they had to mess something up with not announcing a PC release date.

I don't get it, is delaying the PC version supposed to combat piracy because I'm pretty sure it does the opposite.

you'd probably be locked out of MP due to lack of legit cd key anyways. i wonder if there will even be bots for SP in this small of a release

Well maybe this game is a bad example because it's pretty much multiplayer only athough I'm sure people find ways around any cd key issues. It seems to me that the hype of a new game being released would cause some people to buy it whereas if it has already been released on another platform it sort of loses some of that hype. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Publishers put out big name games for consoles and PC platforms simultaneously ALL THE TIME, it's not impossible. This game won't need "polishing" before they can put it on PC, it was DEVELOPED on a PC. The only reason they have for delaying it is to collect money from console users first before it hits TPB and the pirates hack it. Which will happen regardless, and delays will not suddenly turn a pirate honest.

On top of that, people who CAN pirate games may do so to try before they buy if there's no demo, and then go out and purchase the actual game if they like it. Or if they feel insulted, they may make a point of not buying it. Why give your money to a company that just pissed all over you?

I'm not a pirate. But I don't be buying this game when they do get around to releasing it for the PC. Fuck them.
