GameFly Launches Game Answers

21
Online rental hub and Shacknews parent company GameFly today launched Game Answers, a question and answers site focused specifically on video games.

"Game Answers is intended help gamers quickly get answers to specific questions about the games they're playing, without spending a lot of time searching through FAQs or message boards," said GameFly co-founder Sean Spector.

Registered users can ask questions and post answers about video games in topics such as Game Walkthroughs and Hardware & Accessories.

In addition to the basic question and answer functionality of the site, users can follow other users to track their question and answer activity. A user can also post messages to anyone on the site using a Facebook-like wall area on a user's profile page.

Tthe Game Answers database comprises various games from current and previous generation consoles and handhelds, as well as online and PC games. Spector said the company plans to eventually expand the database to cover more platforms and games.

While Game Answers site is a separate product from the GameFly rental service now, Spector noted that the company is open to the possibility of integrating the Game Answers content and functionality into the GameFly site in the future.

I really don't see the point in this and seems a confusing angle of attack to branch out the brand. If I need to know something about a game I'm having trouble with, theres other places to go with more information and you don't have to wade through dozens of other questions that have nothing to do with what you are looking for.

I see where its trying to go (ala experts-exchange) but the design and layout of the site doesn't really push it that way. As it stands right now, its just a bunch of random conversations.

it seems like it's the one thing it has over gamefaqs which has questions/answers only assigned to specific games

I don't know what that means. I can go to gamefaqs, click the game, get a faq and control +F to find any information I need in an easier fashion than posting a question, waiting for it to be answered and hope its actually the right answer.

It will have to be heavily moderated to have any real use. The thing that makes Yahoo answers SOMEWHAT useful (and I stress somewhat because mostly the information you get from it is quite shitty and mostly non-helpful) is that its so diverse. Gameanswers is about answers for 1 subject - games.

I think that for GA to be a bit more helpful, they need sub-categories to find answers. Stuff like:

            Strategy/Help
            Performance/Graphics
            Tech Support
            Singleplayer/Multiplayer

            etc etc..

I agree, I'm not sure I'm the intended market though. It seems like people are using the site...

If I have a question I just use Google, works alright.

say you rent a game and you are playing , you get stuck you need a quick answer to a question,. seems fine to me. as long as it is moderated with an iron fist to keep out the assholes it should be good
