A single-player demo for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is now on FileShack.

The 333MB download allows players to sample the campaign mode of Relic's PC strategy sequel. While many got a sneak peak at the game in the public multiplayer beta held prior to its February 19 release, campaign gameplay was not offered.

In celebration of the demo, Steam--required to run the game--is offering a 25% off discount, bringing the game's cost down to $37.49. The sale ends Monday, April 20.

  • Btw, I forgot to mention that it seems/or feels like quite a few of the game features from Worldshift were implemented into DOW2. (I was finally able to get a copy off ebay from the UK) I'm enjoying it's SP campaign as well and would recommend it to anyone who is enjoying this type of RTS/RPG game...if you can find it sadly!

Here's the shacknews preview from last year of the game:

I wonder if is was a real inspiration for Relic or if the similarities are just coincidence. My personal feeling is that's it's too bad that Worldshift didn't get the press and publicity I feel it deserves...last I checked there were still MP servers up but a quite small number of players. A shame to see a game that's worth playing be so hard to find, at least here in the US.

Anyway, this is just a FYI, I'm loving DOW2 and just thought I'd pass along some info on a very similar game that came out last year.

  • Not an expert with RTS games, have played the SP campaigns of SC and WC3 and enjoyed them though. Just not much of a fan of the MP side as I'm simply not that good at memorizing the hot keys and build order to the degree to be able to compete with those that excel in this type of game.

That said, I am a fan of the Warhammer Universe, have read several of the Dan Abnett books and was compelled to purchase the game based on my interest as well as several positive reviews and the gameplay videos I've watched.

I'm only on Day 4 of the SP Campaign and I'm loving it!

I LIKE the fact that I don't have to worry about resource gathering and base building, I like to explore a map completely. I love the random battle rewards and the RPG aspects of the game, as RPGs are the type of game I gravitate towards the most.

So just wanted to give a positive post to the game, the only drawback imo would be a very brief manual that's included. Would of liked a more through over view of the game mechanics and the tactics to use in certain situations...as like I said, I'm a bit rusty when it comes to RTS.

    I guess I'll learn as I go...haven't lost a Unit Commander yet ;)
