Morning Discussion

Oh Tuesday, I had such hopes for us. But no, you're just like Monday: cold, grey, rainy.

It's okay, though. When times are tough, I always turn to that one especially wise piece of bathroom graffiti I discovered at a local bar long ago: "Toy Story 2 was okay."

Update: Lone Swordsman has informed me that the graffiti originated in a Demetri Martin sketch. Which really bums me out, but does not surprise. Oh look, kittens!

If you are, I would make sure to stock up on supplies before heading out. Skill books, drones, etc. Unless you can get an escort or a wormhole pops up going to empire space you are going to be stuck down there for a bit.

For ratting I would recommend a Battleship but most of you are barely into cruisers so be careful.

You can rat in a Battlecruiser very easily or correctly fit Cruiser without much trouble with the right setup. It's more about the right damage type and tactics.

Uh, Drakes have trouble putting out enough firepower for 0.0 BS rats. Cruisers are definitely NOT recommended, unless you're going for all frigates and cruiser spawns.

Yea....I could see a drake being a pain trying to pop 0.0 bses. I had success using a close up 'cane fit. Once I was under 10k or so and orbiting they couldn't hit me (and I can put out a ton more damage with it versus my drake)

true. just saying it's a relatively easy goal to set both skill and price wise to have a viable 0.0 ratter. a lot more forgiving than a BS in case for when they lose it.

Mining in 0.0 is usually just as safe if not safer than mining in low sec. You don't have to worry about can flippers as much because everyone is on the look out for a neut coming into the system. There are a lot less people in 0,0 than in empire space.

Plus you can mine better ore down there.

Like it was mentioned yesterday, you guys should leave that alliance and in 24 hours the war will be dropped. At that point you should move out of Torrinos (awful spot for an HQ), and pick a quieter system. Even if CEU war decs you again, you'll still have 24 hours to make the move before they can shoot you again. They'll probably just forget about it if you move far enough away.

Getting blown up because most of your members don't have the experience/skills/isk to defend yourself well isn't fun either. But hey, it's your choice. Maybe the other alliance corps will actually actively pursue CEU, but in my experience, alliances usually ignore these corps.

      My first days in Eve.

So the last couple days I've spent experimenting and learning about the game, mostly concerned with character creation and the attempt to gauge what long term goals I would be interested in. I'm still a little unclear here, although it seems like the best way to get myself up to speed will be to jump into military skills and get in the thick of things. One definitive conclusion is that I made some mistakes and that I'm probably going to reroll myself. A lot of the information on the internet is based on outdated information since the latest Eve expansion changed a lot of character creation associated elements, and frankly confused the hell out of me temporarily.

I don't know if it's possible to delete a character and create anew using the same name or not but I suppose I will continue to newb it up around the in-game channel. Thanks for the friendly greetings I received so far. I'm hoping that it isn't too long before playing with people is realistic.

The only thing that is permanent from character creation is your stats, and even those can be changed now (eventually).

Otherwise, all skills can be trained by all characters.

Also no, there can't be two chars with same name, ever.

Hmm, well what I screwed up was my attributes distribution and that forced me to burn my second remap almost immediately. That option is now locked out to me for an entire year and not having the flexibility of that remap concerns me. Since my character isn't older than 2 days it seems like a small price to pay to buy that option back. Do I have the wrong idea here?

          • reply
            April 14, 2009 2:58 PM

Remapping isn't a big deal. Between learning skills and implants, your base attributes are actually not all that important in the long run.

There's no reason to reroll especially now that new chars start with almost no skills. You can train to fly any ship in the game and a reroll will buy you racial frig 3(?) which is just a couple hours to crosstrain with your current char that has other skills in addition.

      • reply
        April 14, 2009 2:52 PM

Why would you reroll? That's just wasted time IMO, and if you'll come to learn anything about EVE, it's that time is everything.
