Guitar Hero Smash Hits Arrives June 16

At first, this trailer for Guitar Hero Smash Hits doesn't seem to offer anything new. We already know about all the songs it mentions, we know it was renamed from Greatest Hits to Smash Hits, and series veterans have a good idea of what it looks like.

But then, at the very last moment, the video redeems itself with word that the compilation of 48 past Guitar Hero tunes, now updated with master track recordings and full band play, will arrive on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii come June 16, 2009. Nice job, trailer.

I really wish I could get excited about this, but I just could not get into World Tour. GH3 was pretty damn good but I dunno, the full band thing really only works in Rock Band for me. Maybe because I like the drums and the RB charts with their rectangular notes are just WAY easier to read for me, at least for the drums.

It's easy to take shots at Activision Blizzard for milking the franchise, but you have to admit that thus far, the quality hasn't suffered any for it. Making money is the name of the game. It's what lets them fund new IP and projects that offer more substantial risk, which we all salivate over.
