If you have ever wished EVE Online had more pew pew, this trailer of Reakktor Media's upcoming space combat MMO Black Prophecy might be right up your space alley.

Black Prophecy sports fast-paced combat where players must actually aim their shots, modular ship building and item modification systems, epic space battles offering the opportunity to man a battleship's guns, and some rather fetching space stations.

Reakktor--developer of MMO FPS series Neocron--has yet to announce a release date.

Being how CCP has gradually but consistently made EVE less and less about individual and more about a fleet where everyone fills a specific role... which basically translates into long wait times it takes to get a fleet together to tackle anyone or anything effectively - which in turn translates into sitting in station or at a pos and thinking that that is gameplay - i am very excited about any and all competition that might come to EVE's direction.

Frankly the game has been getting very fucking boring. Good to see i can jump ship into something more fun and engaging... about time we had some alternatives.

I really respect what they've done here. First: it is completely unoriginal in every way I can think of, including the chop job that guy did on the music. BUT. Everything they've done looks (and sounds) high quality. So while they might not have an original thought in their heads, they executed everything really well, and that is worth just as much praise as an original idea :-)

Small developers are the only ones doing this genre. There are more space games out there and coming than the reader realizes. I say GOOD ON THEM!

hmm, it just looks a little bland and generic to me. all of the "battlefields" just looked too similar. the space fighting didn't seem all that exciting. then again, the last thing i played even remotely resembling a space game was descent 2.

This looks almost like a MMO version of X3, and I say that as a good thing. =)

I don't think I'll be canceling my EVE subscriptions just yet, but I do hope this comes through as good as it looks so far.

I do think the name could use some work though. Black Prophecy? Ancients foretold of interstellar war? I think I could call that one as well. Seems like there's a a new Doom-ish prophecy in a game every week. Let's get something new. =)

I wonder if it will be a single server like EVE and have controllable space. That more than anything made the game interesting to me. I also wonder how much lag is going to affect performance in the real game and if they will include PVP.

This looked quite good - this could be the MMO that I actually enjoy. It certainly sounds more promising than Mining...err...Eve Online for sheer fun minus the tedium and faux political intrigue.

Maybe the music was a huge part of it, but that was pretty fucking epic.

Wow! The main reason I couldn't get in to EVE even though I love the idea is that the combat was just so boring. If this aspect turns out to be good then I am so fucking sold, all the more so if they capture the the in-depth economy and politics of EVE.
