Morning Discussion

It seems like today is the day to announce that your game is coming out on June 9. Activison's all about Prototype getting out then, as is MTV with Rock Band PSP.

Me, I'm just happy that big-name releases are starting to be a bit more spread out across the calendar year. Used to be a time when darn near nothin' came out in the summer, only to see your wallet and your will broken by the ridiculous fall onslaught.

When our hot water heater exploded a few years ago (at 2am, natch), it cost $1500 installed (at 4am).

depends on the hot water heater. a high GPM tankless heater can easily cost 6k

Water heaters are only about $300 dollars. That was some serious labor/overtime rates. Or was it a tankless?

No, just a tank. Maybe I'm thinking of something else (or not; it was early and there was a lot of water everywhere and I was pretty tired/pissy).

I'm seriously considering getting solar panels installed on our roof. It just seems right.

I'd hold off on it for at least a few more years. There have been some significant advances in solar cell production recently, but I doubt the new tech has made it down to the residential level yet. Nanosolar (http://www.nanosolar.com) is one of the frontrunners here, but they're just getting ramped up.

Furnaces are probably one of the last things I'd do myself. Fuck up and it's a gas or CO leak.

Cash-burning stoves are the least efficient. Consider natural gas.

If it is forced air make sure they wrap ALL the joints with duct tape tightly and then cover it with insulation. It is annoying as fuck to see the insulation puff up because some lazy shit didn't wrap a place where two pipes connected.

        It's this one: http://www.lennox.com/products/overview.asp?model=G61V

It's something like $5200 list, and we're getting a new humidifier for another $350-something. But, $250 MIR, and $1500 tax credit (since it's 95% efficient). Fun!

I wish I knew a guy like you whom I could bribe with beer to look at shit after it's done. I'm woefully dumb when it comes to this sort of thing, unless it's on the level of "hey that probably shouldn't be on fire".

My first quote for grading, top soil and seeding my yard is $12K - stupid me for buying a house without a damn lawn.

you'll probably end up with a better yard than the builder left me. just enough topsoil tocover the sand. I have to water my yard like crazy to keep it green.

hehe, if only i could do what the professionals do with my garden rake and shovel!

Ive seen info that the cost to fully landscape should be about 10% of the cost of a home. I just want a nice lawn for now, water fountains and coi ponds will have to wait.
