PETA Invades World of Warcraft to Save the Seals
by Nick Breckon, Apr 07, 2009 6:43pm PDTAnimal rights group PETA is using World of Warcraft to launch a new propaganda campaign against Canadian seal hunters.
The campaign draws a parallel between the in-game slaughter of seals by Horde characters and the real-life hunting of seals in Canada.
"Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur," writes PETA on its blog.
To stop the seal slaughter, the group is of course staging a violent assault on the game's seal-populated Howling Fjord zone. A short piece of machinima was also produced to get the word out:

Stupid stunts like this just polarise people and bring around the idiots on forums like these making posts like "yeah but their also tasty lol".
It's a lot easier to pretend that everyone taking a moral stance on something is a hippie radical than to rationally argue your case. When it comes down to it, you're not really defending eating meat so much as defending the glut in American culture. You want your greasy wings and steak because it's a luxury you don't want to give up, nothing to do with you disagreeing with the "vegan lifestyle".
The lifestyle bit baffles me more than the rest of it even. The dated image of vegetarians and the like really doesn't apply any more. I'm a Computer Science major. I work at the local hospital, I have a social life, I lift weights, I run a competitive gaming clan.
I don't eat meat because I like animals. We live in a modern world where we don't *need* to kill to survive, and I believe it is self evident that life is inherently valuable.
It's really that simple. If you want to disagree, disagree with THAT, because that's the only relevant part. Not eating meat doesn't affect the rest of my life whatsoever.

No matter how you try and justify it, when you get right down to it, you're killing something that thinks to survive. There's no law of nature that says humans must eat other living, breathing, thinking beings in order to sustain. The only things that tell us to eat meat are the fact that our ancestors did and of course the current food industry which makes billions off selling meat. Think of what you just said, and then imagine if we were the food being eaten by another, more intelligent race. There's no such thing is eating a living thinking being without cruelty. It's cruel by nature. When a lion kills an antelope for sustenance, it is a cruel act because the antelope had no choice in the matter; however the lion itself is not cruel because it is not intelligent enough to realize the cruelty of its action. Humans, on the other hand, are very advanced and we know full well what we are doing when we eat another living thinking being. We also have the abundance and technology to be completely free of eating meat and could easily sustain on plant being which do not think. However many of us willingly ignore these two factors because "it's only instinct". Please wake up. This is no more instinct than wearing clothing. We only eat meat because we're told from birth that we must and we've been conditioned to ignore the apparent injustices this creates.

I've always wanted to see a level 80 vegan rogue(No leather)... What levels you could actually kill. To add insult to injury, make in Undead so you could eat other rogues.
Regarding the in-game letter regarding how Canadian Seal Hunters prefer to kill baby whitecoats:
Its been illegal since the 80's to kill whitecoats yet PETA and Greenpeace continue to use only whitecoats in their propaganda, due to their cuteness factor. PETA and Greenpeace's efforts to remove the seal fur trade shows their true colors. They will stop at nothing to force people to subscribe to a vegan lifestyle and if it means the genocide of aboriginals who rely on hunted diets, so much the better. Depicting seal hunters as rednecks just shows their lack of understanding of the issue and how they hate anyone who hunts or eat meat.
Here's my videos on how Inuit hunt seals and need them to survive up in the harshest landscape on earth: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=bashildy&view=videos
Also here are the pictures of the seals we hunted: http://picasaweb.google.com/kevinmking/WarningGraphicPhotos#
As an ATVI shareholder, I will call up investor relations to make sure these guys get shut down as I don't want Blizzard's name associated with these nutballs. The development team and the players of WOW deserve better.

Why do they hunt for perfectly fit stray cats in the city, they are doing fine as is, they aren't contagious, they aren't dangerous and in most cases hunt for rats and other unwelcome guests. But they just pick the up, one by one put them in cages and execute them months later when nobody comes to pick them up, yet the poor cats did no harm to anyone.
I mean, if you see a sick/injured cat you pick it up and help, then release it when it's fine. But not healthy animals.
Once we had a domestic cat, it had a collar and was fit, it was running in and out of our house feeling just fine all the time, yet I had to walk twice a month to a "dog pound" to pick it up, cause those idiots though, my cat got lost, I once even saw a fucker in my front yard trying to catch it with that lasso thing, as he (my cat) was sunbathing, I went out and almost punched the guy in his face.
It took them 2 years to understand that this cat roams freely in the hood and it has an owner and is not lost and even then some random fucker picked it up and took it to the pound. I could explode, really.
I understand you do this for bigger animals, dogs and such, which could potentially be dangerous and pretty frequently truly lost, and even then it's questionable.

Of course the ppl hunting seals just get on with it and realize that other ppl just get on with their lives, instead of harping on everyone about how they don't hunt seals and that it needs to be stopped, because everyone should be like them and hunt seals.
Goddamn hippies.

There is nothing worse than a bunch of humorless, uptight zealots trying to "hip up" by latching onto a popular phenomenon like WoW. Oh, they're so cool! They know who Thrall is! Where do I sign up?
These lunatics are the same ones that would have burned witches 300 years ago. New obsession, same nutjobs.

no way would a real organization fail to see the damage PETA does to it's own message with their insane antics.
And then sell the PETA guys some bags.
Unless some horde people show up flagged, there won't be anything to kill, apart from baby seals.
