Demigod Goes Gold, Collector's Edition Pictured

12
Gas Powered Games' action RPG/RTS Demigod has gone gold and will arrive April 14 on store shelves and publisher Stardock's Impulse digital distribution platform for $40.

The $50 Collector's Edition sports a pewter figurine of the walking castle Rook demigod, a soundtrack CD and poster, though probably not a sample of the Stardock office carpet.

I wonder if this game will be as popular as D.O.T.A (That Warcraft 3 map/mod this game is based on)...

I could see this attracting a different audience, but I doubt hard-core DotA players will switch.

No, you might want to look at League of Legends as they only upcoming title with a good chance of accomplishing that.

Wow, I really don't like the art style of a League of Legends and imo Demigod looks much much better.

I don't know i was never that hard core into DotA. It was *okay* and did not grab me like Demigod has.

I'm not sure what people mean by slow pacing. You start off fairly weak (like most RPG/Diablo style games) and get better over time. The pacing is such that you're almost constantly leveling up and or getting more gold to purchase new items.

The waves of keeps do matter and they matter even more if you upgrade the waves so they have better units in them. It of course depends on which demigod you're using, assassins are much less reliant on creeps -- but they still help to soak up damage when besieging towers.

I like to play at a semi-close up view and then zoom out when I need to look around more (and then rely more on the mini-map for battle updates. IMO it's nice to have the option to zoom out if you want to.

Anyway I like the art style (it's better than many GPG's past games) and I like much much better than DoTA or League of Legends.

When I saw the deep crowds at PAX surrounding Demigod, and then watched with amazement as the guy with silver hair and his teenage daughter outmaneuvered the two skinheads with acne for a position at the demo keyboards, I knew right then that Demigod was going to bring DoTA to the mass market. I watched the amazing graphics, tried my hands at the controls, and pre-ordered on the spot.

Since then I have watched the maturation of the game in Betas, and my only worry has always been that Demigod would eventually get pulled down with the same testosterone-driven player base that has turned DoTA into such an aggravating, insulting, hostile place for beginners and mainstream players.

This flame-filled thread renews my faith that somehow GPG and Stardock have managed to offend the most hardcore DoTA fanboys while enticing the broader group of players that want a beautiful, fun, tactical game that doesn't require a build order and equipment management spreadsheet to enjoy.

R.I.P. DoTA, you were an inspired step forward in the Genre that history will claim was defined by Demigod.
