Chilly New League of Legends Screenshots

League of Legends is inspired by popular Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients, where players level up a single avatar amongst a giant battle of smaller armies.
Developer Riot Games' team includes some of the people behind DotA and certainly appears to be following nicely in its wonderful, wonderful footsteps.
League of Legends: Clash of Fates is due to be released on PC later this year.

I imagine their engine runs very similarly to WC3. It's what they are familiar with. To smooth the transition and convince their fanbase to leave DoTA, I would think a comfortable setting would be a good start.
If they distance themselves too much people might not recognize it and just ignore the game, as happens to so many other new IP.
