Grassy New Operation Flashpoint 2 Screenshots

16
Codemasters has released a new batch of screenshots from its upcoming military shooter sequel Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, which is due this summer.

Slated to hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game is being made without the involvement of Operation Flashpoint 1 developer Bohemia Interactive, which has caused Bohemia to question Codemasters' claims that Dragon Rising is an "official sequel."

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

I simply cannot get behind this game. After playing ArmA, I simply cannot believe that Operation Flashpoint 2 will have superior gameplay to ArmA II. Graphics maybe, but not gameplay. Codemasters just doesn't have it in them.

Huh? The gameplay in ArmA was the worst I've ever played. A developer can TRY to make their gameplay horrible and still not reach the level of horrible gameplay served up in ArmA. And I'm a big fan of Bohemia!

I agree here. I look at OpFlash2 as being a more fun and accessible game. ArmA seemed to take realism to non-fun levels. The war version of sitting around waiting for a dear in dearhunter. I think this will be a great mix of realistic action and playability. ArmA wants to please die hard realism fans so hard it misses the mark in many areas. I think in ArmA to enjoy it you have to mentally make the game be much more than it is. Almost play pretend. If you aren't personally roleplaying, you are going to be miserable with the game. I think this game will strike the perfect balance.

"I think in ArmA to enjoy it you have to mentally make the game be much more than it is." - very good point, I totally agree. A lot of people do that with average games, one that springs to mind is Farcry 2 which I found to be simply awful, but I'm digressing now..

I remember a non nerdy buddy of mine who was sunk in Morrowind. He was totally consumed. Turned out he personally roleplayed it. Only did things his character would do. Even found a place for him to retire.

Also for a farther out example, wii sports. People jumping around pretending they're swinging a tennis racket when you just need to flick your wrist around a little.

I can understand the appeal, it just doesn't do much for me personally.

ArmA's ultra realism is why OF2 will never be the amazing game that ArmA II will be. The fun in ArmA is having the game reward your blatant stupidity with a cold hard kick in the face. You have to think to survive, not just have the fastest reflexes. ArmA is one of the most amazung games I've ever played. Workibg through the campaign on Veteran has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had in gaming.

Go to IGN and look at OF2's newest preview and read the writer's experience then come back and tell me if it revolves around fast reflexes.

Seriously man before you talk down about OF2 at least know if you're actually RIGHT about what you say

I'm not looking for a balance. I don't want a balance of fun and realism. I want nothing but realism. I highly doubt that OF2 is going to be that way and therefore, for me, ArmA II will be wholly superior.

              LOL I LOVED that show...

I'm an ArmA player and I agree whole-heartedly

              Sometimes the "realism", just isn't.

That's a great argument. Lets pray they patch in dehydration and taking a shit. That would make the game much better.

Not that these compare at all, but The Ship introduced Sims like "needs" (bladder, hunger) and it totally made the game.

I don't think that would make ArmA or OpFlashpoint better.

I'm just pointing out the game isn't realistic. People don't truly want a realistic game. So saying it's realistic cuz i act like an army man can apply to any game. ArmA had a shitload of flaws and i wish fans could recognize it. It's the underdog fuck you mentality that confuses me. These fans are like dahleks. "ArmA IS SUPERIOR!" yet it can't climb fucking stairs.

Agreed, that game was a train wreck. I'm giving OP Flash 2 a serious look because of how bad ARMA was.

ArmA gameplay was clunky, the game ran too slow for the visual quality. I loved Operation Flashpoint, I was so excited for ArmA that I imported it as soon as I was able since no US release date was announced. But the feel just wasn't there. It was realistic, some of the new features were cool, but something felt kind of off. I hope ArmA II fixes these issues, but I am willing to take a slightly less realistic game if the gameplay is more solid.

Operation Flashpoint was fantastic. I felt that ArmA failed to improve on it at all outside of graphics and multiplayer support.

I'm hoping this game will be more like the original Ghost Recon - realistic but not to the point of being a sim.

Codemasters has been a fairly consistent developer/publisher the past few years. They put out pretty decent games.

I'm can't wait to give the demo a try. It cannot be worse than ArmA.
