With the action-packed week of Game Developers Conference now behind us, I was shocked to discover that I had overlooked the part where tonight brings a Roller Derby match to those of us in Fort Wayne, Indiana. What a wonderful surprise!
Also, if you happen to be a fan of Mega Man X (or Zero) and Puzzle League (aka Tetris Attack aka Panel de Pon), I suggest you check out Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure on Nintendo DS. The joy this game brings me, I cannot put into words.
There's also a wonderful sense of charm--it's all about being the best-dressed gentleman in the world, and Hatsworth's voice sample is all "hrumph hrumph hrumph."

...and then I got home and had to spend way too much time slowly cleaning labels off of the insert to this copy of fucking Portal Runner that I wasted $3 on and my respect for Gamestop went back down. Seriously, why the hell don't they either stick the sticker on the outside or leave the backing on it so that it doesn't leave residue all over the insert? Whoever hooked up this used copy of Rock Band knew what the hell was going on, but not so much for Portal Runner, Graffiti Kingdom or Vampire Night.
Hmmm, I probably should have picked up Dino Stalker and Dead Aim while I was out just to fill out the collection. Still need Cool Boarders 2001, too. Maybe next month.

Currently the mapmaker has 3/5 done. The first map is finished, the second one has almost everything fixed, while the third has a few bugs to workout with map layout, but overall I'd say all 3 are more polished in terms of missing textures spawns than Death Toll and Dead Air versus.
Pros:
Each map is also ginormous, easily the size of 2-3 standard maps.
Multiple crescendo events
Multiple Boomers and Smokers at once.
Cons:
Maps are ginormous. Lots of side rooms to check, easy to get lost. I recommend a single player run through to get accustomed to the path to take.
The door switches and gates are very, very slow in comparison to the 4 standard maps. They take easily 2-4 times as long to open. Good for infected, bad for survivors.
The size of the maps, along with multiple ambush spots will likely mean few teams make it all the way through.
DrAlco has the updated map on the LA server, and if enough people download it, we might be able to run it on RyDogg's server. As it stands now, players can't download maps off L4D servers, so if you want to try a custom map, you must get it yourself.

I've gotten a new character up to level 22 now, and the game has improved so much. No crashes so far, no bugged quests, no lag, no problems. I've asked several of the 80s in the game so far how the end-game has improved, and so far all of them have said it's improved dramatically. 3 of us are playing it actively right now, more of you should join...

Neversoft finally gets its act together: assuming the music is fine with you, the game is pretty damn fun to play.
* To unlock all the songs at every difficult,you just need to play, oh, about 12-15 songs (depending on how well you play). I'm playing expert drum and 2 hours have all but the last tier open. (basically, you open the next venue by earning a preset number of stars. This is pretty dang low, for example, the second last venue (I assume, I'm counting songs I've unlocked) needs only 60 stars. There's no sets or forced encores.
* The mocap on the band is awesome. (there is a small graphics penalty on a few songs). The fake band (for non-M songs) is a bit weaker but we've come a long way from Muppet singer in GH3.
* Note tracking for Expert (not Expert+) drums seems spot on. I'm not going there with Expert+ (as I don't have the GH kit set up to use the double bass)
* A few songs take nice advantage of the venues; the venues themselves are much less cartoony. On "No Luck Clover", part of the Tushino hanger opens to reveal a string section for that song.
* The amount of extras relative to Aerosmith is so much better. The pop-up video info for each is a nice nice touch.
Now, I don't expect HMX to minimize anything in their upcoming Beatles game, but if we get this and more from HMX, I'll be very pleased with that product.

Great game but... yeesh. Life in the wasteland kinda got to me after a while. Got to the point that I'd run to Oasis every now and then just to see some color.
Also Optimus Liberty Prime was awesome in every way I can possibly think of.

Shackers. I know there's some of you out there that play(ed) this, and with the weekend deal, maybe more of you that are willing to give it a try. I play with another shacker almost nightly (although he's out of town and I'm lonely and bored) and we have a blast (even though I've been playing a lot longer than he has, and some how he has managed to become quite a bit better than me and I hate him for it).
Multiplayer is usually played as team deathmatch, since people tend to ignore the objectives. It still is a lot of fun, however. In order to play online, you need to install and create an account for Hyperlobby ( http://hyperfighter.sk/ ). Then it's just a matter of pointing it to the directory you have IL2 installed and joining a server. Also, you'll have to update it to 4.08m. Steam doesn't do this, I don't know why. The patch does work with the Steam version, though (actually, you can play the game just fine without even having Steam open). The game is pretty simple to learn the basics of. It's not a hardcore modern day sim with a ton of different acronyms and systems to learn. The challenge is learning the flight model for each plane and learning how to use them effectively (a FW-190 flies quite a bit differently than a Spitfire). A joystick is pretty much a requirement (I'm curious if a 360 gamepad would work in a pinch, though). Other than that, all you'll have to know to get in the air is F and V raise and lower flaps, I starts your engine.
It's so incredibly fucking satisfying to take down other planes in this.

So I've been screwing around with Eldar recently. Then I tried the falcon light tanks.
What. The. Fuck.
I had a single falcon light tank take out 3 fire prisms and 2 looted tanks on it's own. What the fuck is up with that energy shield? Is there any single unit in the game that can take this thing out? Every time I fight someone once I get 2 of these out I basically win. They're unstoppable. How did it ship like this?

I'm so appreciating drinking good coffee after drinking Dunkin' Donuts coffee all last week. I've tried and tried to like their coffee because DD is on the way to work, but alas, I can't stand it. It's brown water with coffee flavour™. The local bakery has nice deep dark dank coffee that makes me more productive. Later! Gotta have a good coffee poop!

It's hard to deny the flawless logic some law makers have:
Problem #1 - We need money for kids health care
Problem #2 - We want people to stop smoking to lower the burden on the health care system by smoking related illness
Answer: Fuck it man, let's do both at the same time!
Problem #3 - Finding more funding for the kids health care when the revenue from the cigarette tax drys up when more people quit smoking.
