Rumor: Blizzard Working on Another Mystery Project
by Chris Faylor, Mar 27, 2009 9:39am PDTBeloved developer Blizzard is readying yet another project in addition to its work on Diablo III, StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and its next-gen MMO, claims IncGamers.
Rumors of a fifth mystery project cropped up earlier this week after leading fansite DIII.net noticed a Blizzard job listing for an "a brand new project." Citing an "inside source," IncGamers reports this is not the next-gen MMO or a World of Warcraft expansion, though the project currently uses the WoW engine for testing purposes.
Many speculate that this could be the new property Blizzard has been hinting at for years. "I would absolutely say we will [release a new franchise] at some point," Blizard COO Paul Sams teased last year. "I just don't know when that day will be quite yet."

It would be interesting to see blizzard trying to do something realistic/modern. One of the reasons why their games are awesome immersive is because they choose fantasy settings which make suspension of disbelief much easier to achieve.
Having said that, I wonder what genre it would be? They already have a new MMO in production, an RTS (Star-craft) and a hack n slash RPG (diablo 3) coming up.
It just seems that they would be competing with themselves by releasing anything in those genres. The high fantasy genre is taken by Warcraft IP, dark fantasy by Diablo IP, Sci-Fi by Stracraft IP.
So the above logic would say that there is a good chance of them creating a modern FPS. However, the very thought of that is so un-blizzard like that I feel a bit sick thinking about it.
"Hey guys, I'm engineering lead on a brand new unannounced project and we just
opened two positions:

http://www.blizzard.com/us/jobopp/programmer-software-engineer-gameplay.html
We're using the WoW engine at the moment, and it doesn't use SDL, but if
you have experience in the industry and are interested, I'd love to see
your resume.
Please follow the instructions on the job postings if you want to apply.
See ya!

It's pastel-colored.
A post-atomic wasteland...populated by pink ghouls...where piled up purple rubble looms...and survivors hop a little when they walk as if they had springy soles...and ooh there are rainbows...

I don't think it is a problem that the story was basically finished and picked up by WoW. Since those guy created the story, they can just find a way to make more games. Prequels, parallel universe, blah. I don't think that any company makes their product ultimate ever. There are always possibilities for sequels and especially with warcraft.
I just hope for it. And for F's sake, finish diablo 3, I can't wait.
