Evening Faylure

Wow, the Game Developers Conference really came out in force today. The highlights?

For the full scoop on GDC 09, be sure to hit up our dedicated section. Also, thumbs up to Utah governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. for vetoing that controversial violent game bill.

Lastly, best of luck to all affected by the closure of FileFront. Wasn't expecting that.

    • reply

I don't think the bullet actually hit him. I think he's "protected" by the whole "can't change things" rule. I think Little Ben was just scared shitless and fainted

      • reply
        March 25, 2009 7:09 PM

Probably. But it was still funny. You know Ben is gonna wake up from getting his ass kicked by Sun, he's gonna see a resurrected-from-the-dead John Locke laughing his ass off over top of him and all of a sudden a memory of Sayid shooting him when he was boy is going to pop in his head. His mind will explode trying to figure all that shit out.

      • reply
        March 25, 2009 7:34 PM

I doubt it. They already established the fact that whatever they're doing here has already been done, and they can't change anything. I think Ben will be healed by the island just like Locke was

This seems to have been a problem in Philadelphia for years now (since at least 2006). And it doesn't matter if you have comcast or get it over the air; the audio track to lost on WPVI is horrible and blown out.

My take is that it's still predestination, as Eloise stated, they all needed to be there or break the space-time continuum (it won't happen until the season finale where someone completely fucks up). So, Sayid would have always killed young Ben, but because Jack is there, he's able to help pull out the bullet and heal Ben back up. This of course turns suspicion on the group per the teaser for next week.

Also, this supports an idea about the Smoke Monster, who is there to remove elements from the island that are not part of predestination, in a manner similar to the "Father's Day" episode of Doctor Who. The Smoke Monster will soon become very active....

i would say that the bullet missed all of his vital organs and lodged near his spine, the island healed all his wounds and dissolved the bullet, but in the future the bullet turns into a tumour

I dont think it works like that. Remember back when Faraday was talking to Desmond when Desmond was running the hatch? Desmond woke up "after" that and remembered that talk.

It sucks that the show seems to be doing both though. Are they intruders in the past making "new" history or were they always part of it?

Faraday implanted a "new" memory in Desmond.

Locke used the wheel to get off the island. He happened to be in the past when he did that.

          So which is it?

          • reply
            March 26, 2009 6:21 AM

They've been pretty clear that Desmond is the exception to the rule. It's all been consistent, up until last night. I'm betting we'll get an explanation for that, too, that avoids a paradox.
