Star Trek D.A.C. Details Emerge

We still don't know what the heck "D.A.C." actually stands for, but at the very least, we now have some idea of what Naked Sky's downloadable Star Trek game will entail.

It's a top-down, multiplayer-oriented space shooter, the studio told Joystiq. Up to 12 players can compete online as the two factions--Federation and Romulan--face off. Of course, there's also a single-player mode where you battle against AI bots.

"We wanted to make a pick up and play thing that was just about getting online [and] kicking ass, so that anyone who liked kicking ass would like the game," revealed Naked Sky CEO Joshua Glazer.

The game won't recreate the movie--"I think it's a mistake that most movie games try to emulate the plot of the movie," noted Paramount producer Benjamin Hoyt--with Variety reporting that the battles are "inspired by the movie, but not seen in it." Multiple ship classes will be available, along with the three different game types.

Star Trek DAC is due to hit Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade "near" the launch of the Star Trek film on May 8, with a PlayStation 3 release following shortly thereafter.

Sounds very similar to that crappy BSG game.
