StarCraft 2 Screenshots Reveal UI
by Chris Faylor, Mar 20, 2009 8:33am PDTBlizzard has released another set of screenshots from the anticipated StarCraft II, providing the gaming public with a look at an early version of the replay user interface.
"Replay UI is still very much work in progress," Blizzard's Kevin "Karune" Yui warned on the studio's forum. "These features are designed both to help players improve in StarCraft II as well as serve as a platform of statistics for eSports commentary."
The studio has yet to provide a release date for the PC strategy game, though the title is said to be "in the final stretch" and should see a beta test in the coming months.

Look at Supreme Commanders UI, you have maybe 10% of the screen as UI.
Also, I know I'm going to absolutely HATE the limited zoom after playing all these great Modern RTS games with innovative zooming and map features. I mean, even Grand Ages Rome has a really good zoom out to see the whole level thing going.
I like that blizzard likes to keep the gameplay classic, but come on, lets see some innovation with the UI/controls and, for the love of god, let us zoom in/out as far as we want.

Just dump this out there and all hand on deck for Diablo3, at least you changed the fucking colors so it'll feel like a slightly different game

And hasn't WoW taught them how to make a more customizable UI? At the very least all those panels should be separate components that could be moved around to different locations, or (if someone should desire it) hidden entirely, visible on mouse-over, or whatever.
I guess they still have as much time as they want to work on it, though. It'll still be on schedule for a 2013 release.
Some commentaries seem to have the ability to pick this stuff up, must be some 3rd party network sniffing stuff going on.
I'm a little bothered it's flat. If SUPCOM taught us anything, it's that the UI for a widescreen RTS needs to be vertical.
(I still play 4:3, so I guess I shouldn't worry that much....but the screens are wide, so I will. :) )
