Here's another extended look at Demigod, narrated by Stardock CEO Brad Wardell.

Demigod is that game where you control a single, powerful hero in a competitive, match-based RTS setting. It's a bit overwhelming at first, but the video does a decent job of breaking down the basics.

Stardock's latest is coming out April 14 on PC.

The game looks fun, no doubt. But I'm skeptical. The whole draw to DOTA was the ridiculous ammount of heroes and item combinations. This game seems to be severely lacking in that department with only EIGHT heroes.

Really, that number could be trippled and it still wouldn't even come close to DOTA.

Just don't know what to think, will definitely try this before I buy it.

To me it looks like they're doing things a bit different from dota, which is a good thing - they're finding new ways to make it fun instead of just trying to achieve some unattainable dota ideal. This actually makes me more excited about the game (I'm not a dota pro).

What stupid level design. This whole fighting in an "arena" thing is a stupid idea. I was actually expecting to battle in real environments, not these stupid little maps.

When he said eight heros I thought that had to be a mistake. The upgrade that lets your team get more gold..yeah sounds good in theory but nobody is gonna buy that in early game like he did(in pubs).

I'm a Stardock, fan, no doubt about it but this particular game seems to be lacking a clear defining genre to explain it. Previews don't sound terribly cool either. I smell a potential flop in the making here. I suppose you could argue that Sins of a Solar Empire (best videogame name, ever) was in a similar boat except that previews of Sins were pretty overwhelmingly great. I guess time will tell.

I'm surprised at all the negative feedback being thrown at this game. I've been playing DotA for years now, and I'm hyped for Demigod. The gameplay trailers look pretty sweet. I haven't played Demigod yet, so I could be mistaken. But damn, it looks a lot more promising than many shackers are giving it credit for. I wonder if it has built in stat tracking and match-making like war 3 on bnet. That would really keep the leavers at bay.

I can't help but think that Stardock might be better off holding GPG/Demigod at arms length and letting it stand (or fall) on it's own strengths. Stardock the publisher's quality isn't equal to Stardock the developer.
