Halo Wars Declared Best Selling Console RTS

44
In the three or so weeks since Halo Wars launched, the Xbox 360 strategy game has sold over one million copies worldwide, publisher Microsoft announced today.

That makes it "the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console," according to Microsoft's claims. The final game from Ensemble Studios, Halo Wars hit Asia on February 26, Europe on February 27, and North America on March 3.

Over 2.6 million multiplayer matches have been played thus far, adding up to 118 years of time, with Microsoft teasing that "these initial explosive battles in 'Halo Wars' are just beginning" as the Ensemble veterans at Robot are working on more Halo Wars content.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

So, how many RTS console games exist? That just does not appear to be as impressive as it sounds.

C&C3 / RA3 have been mildly successful if I'm not mistaken

Starcraft and Command and Conquer on the N64
      LOTR BFME2 - 360/PS3
      Red Alert 3 - 360/PS3
      C&C 3 - 360/PS3
      EndWar - 360/PS3
Full Spectrum Warrior (maybe?) - Xbox/PS2
      Halo Wars
Supreme Commander had a 360 port
Some game called Ogre Wars or something on the last gen consoles

And Creative Assembly has Stormfront coming out...

      I'm sure I'm missing a few...

Notice how many of these are ports and how many were designed for the consoles.

Very True, but it is a impressive list. I assume this is good news for console people then.

I think new genres on new platforms is always a good move for gamers. New ideas are good.

I considered Overlorad to be an RTS of sorts, probably in the same vein that Battlezone was an RTS, but since you put Full Spectrum Warrior there and that game was excellent.

I was thinking Overlord but I wasn't sure. FSW was good times.
