Resistance PSP Tournament Offers $25,000 in Prizes

With Sony Bend's Resistance: Retribution (PSP) now at North American retailers, publisher Sony Computer Entertainment has paired with community site Global Gaming to throw an online multiplayer tournament for the portable third-person shooter.

Registration opens today and runs until May 10, 2009. Two ladders, 2v2 and 4v4, are open. Combined, the two brackets offer over $25,000 in prizes for U.S. gamers.

The actual tournament portion begins on April 8, with winners declared May 31. Oddly, some of the prizes include a PSP--something you'd think participants in a tournament for a PSP game would already have. The listed prizes follow below:

    2v2 Competition Prizes
    • First Place (2 players): Leather Bomber Jacket (ARV $180), $500 in Sonystyle Gift Cards, and PSP TV Prize Pack (32" XBR TV, PSP-3000, 16GB PRO Duo and Component AV Cables. ARV $1420) for each player
    • Second Place (2 players): Leather Bomber Jacket (ARV $180), $500 in Sonystyle Gift Cards, and PSP Pack (PSP-3000, 16GB PRO Duo. ARV $370) for each player

Players - sorry, cyberathletes - might own PSPs but do they have leather bomber jackets? That's the real prize here, the most important one. So you probably don't even need to try your best.

are you sure they should be called cyberathletes when they are using a mobile device? I think they should be called mobile athletes!
